Amby's dyno day

Well I went with some other lancer guys in town and got the car dynoed. Cost 60$ for 4 runs (could have done more though) and if we had the required equipment, tuning. Obviously I didn't get it tuned since there's no point for me, going turbo in a few weeks.
Anyways, the results were less than stellar. I got a maximum of 87.0 hp and 98.6 lb ft of torque. This is on a dynamometer which supposedly reads 10-15% less than a dynojet. If you do the conversion this still only leads to about 102 hp. I have every bolt on possible (intake, throttle body, intake manifold, header, catback exhaust and fuel rail) and 10:1 pistons (stock is 9.5:1). As a comparison a 2005 lancer (same engine, same tranny) with just an intake put down about 83 hp and 101 lb ft of torque. This means I spent a few grand to gain 4 hp and lose 3 lb ft of torque. This goes to show how useless the 4G94 is as an NA motor. Granted mine isn't the most aggressive setup but I can't see an NA lancer ever breaking the 160 hp mark even if they went full out.

^Yep, very sad... but seeing how I'm piecing together a turbo kit for my Civic project keeps a smile on my face! These motors are gutless.

that cant be right, many dynos will run very low #s...i can garentee that every1 of our lacners rolled out stock with ATELAST 100+ hp...and with all those mods (bolt on or not) you should be 130+...i say user error...what brands of mods do you have?

that or you have a 500lb system sitting in you trunk...

I don't know why people are so shocked by this. It's been a known fact that the 4g94 isn't a HP monster like the other mitsubishi engines. Our car was made to run effeciently on low octane gas... it sucks but we have to deal with it.

i am well aware that ou engine is not crammed full of horse power, but it is not that low...

here is a picture of a dynojet result from magnaflows homepage, WE WILL ASSUME THIS IS AN APPROXIMATION.

but even after taking in the fact that this probably is not 100% correct, it is still far from ambystorms dyno, and this is just a comparison from a stock motor with no mods to a bolt on magnaflow exhaust.

that dyno is F'd i dynojetted 97whp automatic with sri and axleback.

Let me do some perspective. I then got piggy, rpw header, 4g93 intake mani, tb, new wires, plugs, downpipe. Where i used to get owned by my friends celica gt with intake and exhuast, i then spanked him by about 3-4 lengths going up to 100.

That dyno's damaged. Amby, Im surprised you tolorated seeing these results.
Theres no way your car has less than 100Hp. I dont buy it.
They come stock with 120, we all know that.
Your car isnt that slow dude. That dynos busted, or something else is wrong, perhaps with the car, but I dunno.
Cus I just adjusted the timing on my car (Retarded 3° - Thread coming soon) and I was still able to goof around with an Audi TT on the hwy.
All I have in regard to Power Mods, are OBX Headers, 2.5" Exhaust/HKS Muffler, and a CAI, and Im on 18's even..
