I'm about the pull the trigger on a GTS but i could use some final input

Alright my local dealer has three cars

An 08 Black GTS with 100 miles on it, its fully loaded with all the tech packages and they put leather into it. Dealer listed the price at 24k with leather before Dealer Markup.

They have two 09 GTS's with full tech packages, cloth seats, and they are in Silver and White.

Mitsubishi currently has a 1.8% Interest rate for 48 months on the 08 models, or a 4.9% for 60 months on the 09 models.

I like black and prefer black over the other colors and so i am leaning towards the 08 model.

Dealer also offered me 3,000 off the price of the 08 GTS.

I owe more money on my trade in than the dealer would give me, so i am going to try and get them to give me enough to payoff my trade in and than get them to discount the 08 to around 20-22k.

The black one has like 141 miles on the car, i noticed a small dent a couple of small scratches, seems like the car has been there for awhile so i think they would be more likely to move it than an 09 GTS.

However everybody says the 09 GTS with the 2.4L feels better with the extra 24 HP(i live in California so we only get 143 HP here).

Anyway im looking to get some info from you guys on which car you think is better.

I looked at a Honda Civic and a Toyota Corolla(i used to drive a Mazda 3) and they did not compare to the Lancer in terms of warranty or technological features(Corollas were way over priced).

Anyway i wanted a Lancer Ralliart but for money reasons and my need for a daily drive i am going to take the GTS(I am 20 years old and in college).

Let me know if you can, im thinking about pulling the trigger this weekend.

Sounds like you're going to get a much easier better deal on the black '08.

You'll have more low end "grunt" with the '09 GTS cars; actually you'll have more "grunt" throughout the entire RPM range with the '09s. However, I personally think it'll only ~really~ be noticeable when you're doing side by side comparisons.

If you plan on modding, you'll have an easier time with the '08 because parts, however limited they are, are already available and there will always be more 2.0L Lancers on the road than there will be 2.4L Lancers. The parts for the 2.4L are only ~just~ becoming available, and the ~major~ brand names will be at least another year out before anything appears for them.

The 2.0L PZEV Lancers aren't that bad, really. However, since you're going to be transitioning from an RX-8 to a Lancer, I'm sure the '09 GTS's will feel less "gutless" to you.

All things equal, I'd go for the one you can get a better price on. 140 miles on the Odo won't make a big difference on the car's long term reliability...

Also, as much as I don't care for Leather/Vinyl interiors, the Leather option IS becoming more appealing to me for the Lancers. The cloth chosen for our Lancers is a lint & hair MAGNET. If you have pets with light colored hair, the Leather is even MORE attractive.

Thats some great input, ideally if i could find an 09 Lancer GTS in black that would be ideal.

After browsing online i have not seen much. I will probably go for the 08 Lancer GTS.

DUDE Please do not buy an 08 for 21k, tell them you need to be out the door no more then 20 thousand if you do the 08. Anyways, whats stopping you from going to another dealer for more options, or having them trade with another dealer to get you the car you want. Trust me the 09's have that extra power and they are a year newer, if you like the leather and dont care much about the power just do the 08 but make sure you get a damn good deal on it. Don't be afraid to be kinda an *** to the dealer, you are the one with the money and i assume you worked hard for it so only spend the amount you feel is right.

All I can say is that if you like the 08 get a better deal out of it for sure. I love mine. I bought mine in 07 (when they were fresh and new) for 21,500. It has everything except the Navi. Cars over here are like 10% more expensive than over in the US.
Like mmarta says. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO DEAL. Its ure money, your future car for a few years at least.

I got my GTS(Sun and Sound) with 9 miles on it in April of 2007 for $19,600 out the door. Do not get it over that before finance. You should hit up South Coast Mitsubishi, they'll hook you up. Don't let them tell you they can't go lower.

My trade in is what is killing me. I am "upside down". I don't want to wait and sell it privately because Mitsubishi's incentives end in June.

I have not test driven an 09 model yet, i plan to the next time i go there.

Right now i owe 13,000 on my RX8. Private Party its worth 14-16k, dealer its worth about 11.

I imagine they will offer me something in the 10,000.

If i can get them to give me private party value for my car(for them to secure the loan) and than get an 08 or 09 GTS fully loaded with both packages for 20-22k, thats the deal im looking for. Anything lower is icing on the cake.

I will say this, Mitsubishi seems desperate to sell cars

I just got back from test driving an'09 RX-8. I bought an '09 Lancer GTS a couple months ago. Just wondering why you would go from the RX-8 to a Lancer? In my mind, after my test drive, there is no comparison. If I hadn't just bought my car, I would have brought that car home with me today.

So basically, you are looking for something with better gas mileage?

keep your current car instead of taking a loss...when you finish school and get a job...then just get a car you want instead of settling for something.
