dealer not covering tranny problems
so i was driving my 2009 lancer GTS around yesterday and i stopped at a light and tryed putting it into first gear and it wouldnt go so i started off in second. then i was coming up to another light in third and went to downshift and all it would do is grind. so no i dont have first gear unless i am still rolling and i can down shift into second. now up shifts are fin like 1 if i can get it into it to 2 and so on. now i took it in to the dealer and they ripped it all apart and where like its not covered because the flywheel is burnt. well there is only 4576 km on it, like i havnt even done its first oil change yet. anyways what should i do or say to the dealer?
I hate seeing this happen. If you legitimately weren't beating on/racing the car and you just happened to have faulty parts, then they should cover it, no questions asked. Do you have any mods they might try and attribute it to as well? If you don't beat on the car, and don't have heavy mods, I'd fight it. I can see another customer vs dealer war thread starting here soon, hope this works out though.
there are no mods at all this car is like my weekend cruzer i drive a cavalier to work every day....and drive the lancer on weekends or if i am going somewhere fancy. i am at a loss for words with Mitsubishi i really am. like they tried telling me there was nothing wrong with my car so i basicly yelled at them till they took it for a drive
So it is true...Manual is not covered by the mitsu warranty. Yet CVT is part of the warranty. Sorry dude. I guess you have to pay for the damage part plus labor. Unless you convinced the manager of your stealership. Good Luck
they called me and told me that some big manger is coming to look at my car to see if its warranty....i should be there when they go through my car and be like your all idiots there is only 4576 kms on it, it should not have went even if it was being abused or somthing like i tough mitsu was good but i guess its all just the evo....
Its probably just your dearlership. Most dealerships are pretty nice and helpful. I think mitsubishi doesn't cover the evo clutch depending on the mileage and they look at the flywheel to know if its been ragged out. Now from reading the thread seems like your car is pretty new and i know the stock clutch lasts longer than that even my reg base lancer was beated on and was ready to keep going. I would complain and yell and see to it your clutch/tranny gets fixed or else

If the car looks like it's been bagged on (very hard upshifts, launches, etc), they won't cover it. The problem is the only way they can tell this is by taking the transmission apart. They'll look at the flywheel for signs of abuse generally speaking. It's possible that something was wrong with the clutch/throwout bearing which caused the clutch to essentially always be in contact with the flywheel thus causing the problems you see.
say starting out in second was causing you to ride the clutch to get going thus burning out the flywheel. Bottom line is the clutch isn't releasing properly causing you not to be able to get into gear. The problem isn't the clutch slipping, so I say the dealer is trying to avoid this. See, mitsu pay for thier labour, but most dealership will only get so much labour, and it doesn't usually cover the actual labour so that's why your dealership is avoiding it. Because they won't get all their money.
didn't this happen to someone else not to long back? I forget what the outcome was, you should do a search around the forums to see what happened. That thread may have some helpful advice for ya
i talked to them today at mitshui and they tryed feeding me some lines and i basicly said fix it or i am watching over to chevy and they where like give us five mins and they came back with they will cover the whole cost.....lol yay i win
yeah, i had the exact SAME problem with mine a few months back. it's a faulty transmission. they tried telling it was the fork and that they wouldn't cover it and blah blah blah. they had the tranny taken apart so i told them me and my dad would go and check it out (dad's a certified mechanic for 40+ years already) and they called me back about an hour afterwards and said they would cover it with no charge. they just try to get your money. once they see you're willing to pay, or you tell them you want to look at it and take another mechanic with you, they automatically are at a loss of words and will do the work free of cost
