That sounds like the same engine from the mirage. That means you should be able to run slightly more boost than lancers, so like 10-12. Also you can use any 4g93/4 turbo kit you can find. You'd want a smaller T25/T28/16g (T3/T4 at most) that way it spools up fast and puts out a decent amount of power on stock internals.

Are using anything to tune it? Like EcuFlash? That'll take you a good little way...

I would suggest checking out the mirage forum (I think it's mirageforum.com but I'm not 100% sure) for specifics on how much boost you can run as well as what kits are out there for your car. You should be fine with the stock ECU as long as you don't go crazy. A piggyback ECU or a reflash is a must though.

Yeah even though you have a Lancer, the engine is from a mirage and you'd find more resources for the motor on a mirage forum.

If you get a T3/T4 and run it on stock internals, you won't be getting the most out of it. I'd say for stock internals, stick with a T25/T28/16g for the best results. Then if you have the money to do the internals, you'll probably have the money to upgrade to a T3/T4. Those smaller turbos you can also run on the stock ECU if you get a bigger fuel pump and wideband o2 just to make sure you're running fine.

can the standard ECU handle without a reflash with a T25/T28/16g if so how much boost can it handle

Yes, people are running between 5-7psi on any of those turbos with no tune. Just a bigger fuel pump (walbro 255) and maybe a FMU...12:1 I think. Any more boost than that and your will need bigger injectors and a tune for the bigger injectors.

Check out the forced induction section of the lancer area. There's some very helpful sticky threads there. If you read those, you will have a much better understanding of the whole system

I would strongly suggest you get a tune somehow whether it be with a piggyback ECU or a reflash. Yes the FMU option works but people have had issues with it and RRM now uses a piggyback system.
