Car got towed, and they scratched it!
So my car got towed, because apparently my fiance's complex didn't like where I parked...sucks, but my fault, had to pay $90 to get it back, again it sucks, but "my bad" so i paid it.
Before I left, I inspected the car and did a once over, only to find the top of my trunk has a paint scratch / scuff. Its definitely in the paint, and it wasn't there before they towed, but they pulled a "liar liar" movie moment on me and said "it was like that when it came in"
They think I am lying about it, and when I asked for their insurance information, they said "no"
If I wanted to lie, there are chips in the paint on the hood, and a big scratch that's hard to notice (but definitely a worse scratch that woulda cost more to fix) that I could have pointed out, had I wanted to lie.
The scratch I found was noticeable because its a scrape, on top of my trunk (where the spoiler is going to go anyway)
but it's not about the cost of repair, it's the fact that they refused to accept responsibility, and told me they wont give me the insurance info, when I asked (can you even really do that?)
So my insurance called them for me, and they denied it again, this time they said "it was an old faded scratch that was there already"....but when I told them I saw damage on my car, they didn't even inspect the car, they just immediately told me "nope, there's no way we did it!" so how the hell do they know what type of scratch it is or what it looked like?
So my insurance, is having me pay a $100 deductible, to get it fixed...and is going to "go after the tow company" to attempt to recover damages "with no guarantee"
anyone else had something like this happen? Or have any tips on how to handle it better?

towing companies are low life. they will try to beat the system and put the blame on you. mostly happens on tow companies with no reputation. Even insurance companies cannot touch them. it is your word against them. one local company towed my 1988 galant and ended up hitting my oil pan leading to a complete oil spill when they towed it to my house. They did not take responsibility and even poured used oil where they initially picked the car to cover their bases.
good luck getting them to cough up the cash.
essentially it's your word against theirs and unless you took a photo of the car just before they towed it, or someone admit's blame, you're not gonna get the money back
