Question Air intake system and exhaust. One or the other?

I'm still fairly new to the idea of modifying my Lancer DE, and I know I do want to put an aftermarket air intake system and eventually a new exhaust system, although only being 19, money is an issue. Long story short, can I install an air intake system (looking at K&N short ram) without having to install an exhaust system first, or do I need to do exhaust first as advised by a friend, his reasoning being that not enough air gets out and i'll "choke my engine".. or something like that.

It should not be a problem. I was going to do the same thing.

Awesome! Any intake systems you could recommend? I've spoken with a K&N sales rep cause I originally wanted to by a short ram intake from K&N, but unfortunately they don't make an intake system for my car yet .

Mike, I installed an Injen SRI last weekend. I have had no issues with it whatsoever. I'm waiting to see if I get any mpg gains, so I can't post on that. Sounds great and really seems to run better.

I'd vote for intake first. I think RRM or AEM make intake systems for the DE

It doesnt matter which one you go with first, Id vote go with an intake first and go with the K&N, there a great company with a great product and they stand behind there customers if they have any warranty issues with there dealership. Its also a great intake to have if you decide to get a ralliart or evo hood.
