Is the 4G69 Swap Possible into an 05 ES?

We are about to attempt to upgrade a UK 2005 Lancer ES 1.6 4G18 to the 2.4 MIVEC 4G69.

I need to know whether anyone knows if this swap is or is not possible. If it is possible then it will be done in the next copuple of months.

Some issues we need to think about are:

Will the 4G69 tranmission bolt up to the current drive axles?
How do we tackle the throttle by wire system on the 4G69?
Where can a brand new 4G69 be bought from?
Do the plugs from the 2005 ES Lancer fit the 4G69?
What parts am I likely to need to do the swap?

I have the ECU already, and getting the mounts is not a problem. I'm concerned about the wiring, plugs, throttle and tranmission, and drive axles.

Once completed I shall provide details on how to go about this swap. I know most people say they will do the swap and then dont, but I am serious as we can only get 1.6 Lancers in the UK.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if I get this done I will spill the beans on how to swap a 4G69 into an 04-05 ES.

Use the search tab on the top of the screen. Type : swap or 4g69 and you will find more info than you need.

Same principle, same engine family, just less power. Problems/swap procedure will be virtually identical.

Wouldnt it just be more economical to get the ralliart? If you end up buying a brand new engine and tranny, you just have that without the body looks of the ralliart...plus its time consuming.

Is the Ralliart available in the UK?
(I'm guessing yes, but I dunno.)

Ralliart is not available in the UK, biggest engine is 1.6

Now see why I want the 2.4 swap and not an imported ralliart.

I have a new question now as we loom closer to buying the engine. Does anyone know if the 4G69 will mate to the transmission from the 4G18 1.6 - the gear ratios in 1st to 3rd are the same so it would save a lot of hassle if it would mate up.

Annoyingly, the UK lancer 1.6 comes with full ground effects kit, spoiler, four wheel disk brakes with ABS/EBD and strut bars... Its Ralliart but without the engine!

Yeah, I'm gonna say you're gonna be going through many of the same problems as a 4g63 swap since you're changing from the 4g1x (which apparently seem to be most similar to the 4g9x's from what I've gathered) to the 4g6x family. Both swaps are possible, but most people can't help with specifics. It may be easier/more practical to find a EvoIV+ engine for swap rather than the 4g69 from the Ralliart. If you're looking for more HP for the buck I'm going to say skip the 4g69. If you're going for the 4g69 specifically, expect the same issues. You can probably find front clips and/or just the parts you want from American suppliers if not elsewhere in Europe.

A front cut of a US ralliart is a possibilty, if I can get it shipped to the UK which would probably take an ice age and a frostbitten arm and leg.

It is the 4G69 I want specifically... I wouldn't consider another engine.

It is annoying that I cant find the answers the the specifics because If I knew what would work then I could buy the parts and hand the car over to the garage.

I don't know if anyone's done the 4g69 yet. I think you're going to end up pioneering or crashing and burning. Hopefully the former of course. If I were you I'd probably work on finding a front clip, finding out the specifics about costs and freight, and then start working backwards from there as far as assembly goes. You're not going to have fun doing this, but I have no doubt that it can be done.

Again though, if I HAD to do a swap I'd definitely go 4g63. I'd prefer to have the parts (replacement and aftermarket) available, plus the extra power. Doesn't really matter though because I bet the swap is virtually the same anyway.
