Help Needed, Nothing like you've ever seen
 

Alright this is going to take awhile to explain, so just bear with me.

First off you all should know I drive an 04 OZ with an intake as its sole mod.

My dilemma:
I work for a drivers ed company that trains teens, cops, fireman, and even corporate fleets. The final part of the police officers training is a course setup in a very large parking lot to simulate a pursuit.

What I want to know is what parts would I have to modify or upgrade to make my car durable enough to do this type of driving once a week for an afternoon. (Yes, I said what do I need to do to my car to make it so I can get paid to run from the cops.)

I have a feeling much of the suspension would have to be upgraded, and possible some of the engine parts, but besides getting fresh tires every so often (these pursuits are high speed affairs with sharp corners) what else would be good? Or am I insane for even considering this especially since my car is a daily driver, and I'm a po' ass college student.

Any input would be greatly appreciated guys.

but you're crazy for trying to use an OZ to simulate 'high-speed' chases, it just ain't fast, and don't worry, I drive one too

well, an Evo would be perfect for cop pursuit, not to mention interesting on these forums with the results. but if you have a oz, and are sticking with it, then i would say bars. bar in front , 3 in back, strut bars that is. and for go, skip all the bull**** and get turbo. every other bolt on wont do much and in the end is really costly.

When I said full speed I did not mean that in the highway sense of the word. Think of a course setup like a series of city blocks in one large parking lot connected to another lot with more residential style, and finally a straight away with a turnaround at the end sorta like a rural road with a cul de sac at the end. In addition each pursuit lasts only 2 minutes at a maximum, so it would end up being about 28-34 chases an afternoon.

The biggest thing I'm worried about here is the reliability, I've still got 3+ years left in payments (0% rules) so I don't wanna do all the mods do these pursuits and kill my car in less than a year.

well your gonna put your car through some stress, but i say skip the turbo. get teins ss coilovers, front strut bar, rear sway bar, and a trunk bar or two. and better tires. all totalling a small total of: 2,100 +. is your job paying expenses?

ha if you knew you were going to use your car for persuit chases like archangelite said you should have gottan an evo. no one would escape you lol. but yah since you have an oz you should be alright. you'll just have to keep maintainence up your car. since it'll go through a lot of stress make sure to take care of it.

Dude.... if its a city setup where there are 90 degree turns on every corner, there is no way a cop car is going to catch you. Even our little 4g94 lancers would kill a RWD Chevy Caprice or Crown Victoria(assuming thats what they have) around a city-type of course. I wouldnt worry about turbo because it will be hard to get it to spool up for very long before you are making a turn. I would do some suspension mods as well as as better brake pads because the stock ones like to burn a lot. I went ahead a got the Axxis pads and they dont burn at all and believe me, I use these pads to the ultimate extreme in the mountains. This is somehting you should worry about though since you are going to be doing alot of hard braking. Hope this helps a little. O and BTW.... getting paid to run from the cops is a once in a lifetime job and I wish i could do it myself. Congrats man!!!!

suspension, lower it with tighter springs. suspension bar set (all of them). new exhaust, new CAI, Ported IM and TB, Header and Downpipe. Keep your Cat (cause you'll be training cops) and Piggyback ECU. Most importantly, Sticky Tires. You should do fine.

I would recommend RRM Header, AEM/Injen Intake, Magnaflow or Greddy Catback, RRM piggyback, eibach springs, RRM ported IM, maybe some 17x7 rims with 40 series tires.

turbo and rear sway bar front k bar and rear trunk bar.... also u will need to fix ur car once u roll it... lol

16" rims with a 40-45 tire... you want smaller wheels for acceleration

do you have abs on your car? if not might wana upgrade those brakes of yours.. you dont wanna crash your car after a pursuit right? :lol:

intown racing means turning and stopping hard and low end accelration. if ur serious about this, upgrade the brakes, or even a rear disc conversion, so u can stop on a dime. full susepnsion upgrades. CF hood/trunk to lose some weight.....CAI and a header and exhaust will help on the gettup if u dont wana go turbo.....

work on your suspension, and a few power mods, then make it a low-medium speed chase through the twisties. lol they might have a harder time catching u then

Thanks for all the input guys, all this info has really helped me out. And yes I'd agree with those of you that if I knew I were getting paid to be chased by the cops I would have gotten an Evo if I could've afforded it.

So, here's basically how I think things will go down:

1. Magnaflow exhaust
2. Tein coilover set
3. Strut bars front and rear
4. Tires for the 15" stock OZ rims
5. Rear disc brake conversion - been interested in this for awhile

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I can find the rear wheel disc conversion?
