I'm an IDIOT (battery related)

Due to my retartedness the battery in my car fell on its side in the trunk and spilt on the carpet in my trunk. Needless to say it smells terrible and gave me instant headache smelling it. Anyhow is this going to cause my battery not to work right anymore? Also how do I go about cleaning up the spill from the trunk carpet?

Thanks for the help!

LOL. i believe you should get a new battery/

1. Go buy a new battery. 2. Throw away trunk lining completely, clean metal in trunk off with... (google whatever equalizes battery acid.) i'd say lysol and maybe vinegar. Buy a new trunk mat from a junkyard, should be about 15 bucks. Battery acid can be very dangerous and if you inhale fumes or let it soak into your car bad ish should ensue.

When you replace the battery get a solid state battery. The battery you have can be recharged, yes you can buy battery acid, i dont suggest it though. Optima batteries are solid state, they have no liquid in them, its what most guys use when they do a battery relocation. As for the battery acid now in your trunk do everything he said above. Battery acid is NOT something you wanna mess with.

Yeah, get an Optima battery so that won't be an issue any more.

Vinegar is an acid just like battery acid. Use baking soda or anything that is a base, just not too far. IE don't use bleach.

Water should be fine to clean up the acid, but you'll want to use a lot and completely flush the trunk with the entire lining taken out to prevent mildew. ALWAYS secure trunk mounted batteries, preferrably in a box. I should take my own advice (right now my battery is naked, but it's also an Optima, so it's not going to spill and it's at least strapped down) but my situation is a little different than yours. Anyway, you learned a lesson hopefully and should be careful not to let it happen again.
