SRS Light (airbags for those who can't read)

So I took my Guage Cluster out tonight, after I put it back in, the SRS light wont turn off.

What do you think could be the cause of this? I short something?

I havent touched any wiring besides the 2 harness' that were connected to the cluster, maybe I pulled the wire from the light itself or something?

Found a diagram, still a bit confused

I was actually wondering this myself. Over the last month or two my SRS light has come on and won't turn off. I haven't touched any wiring, but just one day it went on and won't turn off. I can't take it into the mitsu dealership because their hours are the same as mine at work, and when I dropped my car off at the local autoshop, their computers couldn't read it or something they said. When I contacted the dealership, they said as long as my horn works, all is fine, but it's still damn annoying...

I would love to know what would cause this.

I dont know if its the same on the lancers but on the Evo, if any of the airbag sensor plugs are removed without first disconnecting the battery, the SRS light will come on. Even after you plug them back in because the cirucuit is open once you do that. The airbag plugs are usually the yellow ones. I've removed the evo cluster without tripping that light but did remove one of the plugs near the bumper and caused the same issue as you. Even resetting the battery won't turn that light off.

And now for the bad news. Nothing short of an SRS reset scanner will turn it off. An OBD2 scanner will not do the trick.

I brought it down to the dealer for an oil change today and asked for them to reset it.

They couldent reset it, it pulled a "no commucation" code.

Now, that couldent be caused by me pulling the guage cluster could it?

I dident touch ANY wires cept what was on the back of the cluster, those 2 harness'

Taking out the gauge cluster would not trigger that light. You may have inadvertantly unplugged something else.

Unplug the battery for about 15-20 mins. to clear it.

Tried, let it sit for about 3 hours while I went out, dident clear it.

And I dont know what other wire I could of unpluged, seeing as the ONLY wires behind the cluster are the 2 harness' =/ Maybe pulling on the plugs caught it on a airbag one under the dash or something?

BigP436 Aug 15, 2006 07:35 PM

on most cars the yellow airbag plugs have a double clip on them, so pulling one out accidentaly is very unlikely.

You may need to reread the post. He's referring to SRS light not SES light. NOTHING short of a scanner specifically for SRS will reset that light.

Many cars need to go through a cycle before the light could go off...for instance you may have to start the car multiple times before the actually will go off because the computer then senses that there was a fault in the system.

How often have you driven your car in the past 4 days?

Spiced up the thread title since we're getting a lot of tips to reset the SES light...

I have the documentation somewhere but I can't find it right now.For the SRS light, it would need a really high number of cycles before its reset if nothings wrong. Its either in the hundreds or thousands I dont remember.

Atleast 30 times on and off, I do about 50 miles round trip a day just for work, about another 30-40 in city driving to.

So far:

Bringing it to dealer to reset hasent worked (No commucation)
Tried to cycle my key back and forth dident work(read it worked on the 3SI's)
Unplugging battery dident work. Left it unplugged for about an hour or two when I went out to eat.

Its going back to the dealer tuesday for the head tech to look at it, he said expect to leave it there most of the day :crap:

He spent about 15-20 minutes on it when I brought it in for an oil change.
