A2 designs, Something's Gotta Give
Hey everyone, after "finishing" my twin throttle body install, I guess this will be my review/warning to others.
When ********** first appeared on the boards, they had quite a large amount of cool new products for a very cheap price for us Lancers. Many people were skeptical, others were open to new ideas, like the twin throttle body. Phillip (owner of A2) claimed the product would work and provide a large increase in power. He advertised the heavily bored, jet coated manifold, an intake spacer, and a bored jet coated fuel rail. Having trust in new products, I decided to be the guinea pig. My friend and I purchased two stage 3 kits at the same time. The first kit arrived after a few weeks, the throttle body was broken off, and it only included the manifold and pipes. Phillip told me to send it back and he'd fix it and reinforce the second one. About a month goes by of no responses to PMs on here or his forum, he goes to the hospital, other people buy his products, paying for a stock coated manifold and a stock coated fuel rail (if they even got one). Another month goes by and Thanksgiving arrives. One of his employees or whoever PMs me from Phillips account saying he'd make sure both kits were mailed out the next day. After a week of PMs and Phillip going to the hospital again, I finally get a tracking number for one package. It arrives and is only my manifold fixed, still not ported. Frustrated with it all, I install it just to get it done and see how it turns out. Piping isn't even close to fitting, because I didn't receive the fuel rail, my 04 fuel rail doesn't fit. I manage to get it to work and I start the car and go through the learning process (the second throttle body is blocked off because pipes don't fit). The car idles horribly, and when put in park or nuetral, the RPMs bounce to about 200-300 once or twice then it dies. I know that everyone that received the wrong color pulley or stock manifold just painted can agree with me that A2 seems to be going down hill more and more. Now belive me that I am not one to write things like this. I was a big supporter of the new business from day one. Having ordered from them close to day one and being almost toyed with like this the whole time, I still gave them the benefit of the doubt. But it has gone to far. I encourage A2 to make this right. I am now stuck with a useless twin throttle body that I can't use anywhere else. Useless piping. And missing parts supposably included. It is fraudulent to not include those things and sell a product not as described (saying it will be heavily ported and arrive stock). I didn't want this to turn into a rant or rave, I got a bit carried away. I just want to inform everyone about what is happening from a customer's point of view. |
If this turns in to a mess, this thread will be closed and trashed.
Adam, I am sorry that this did not work for you. I had high hopes that it would. To bad that you had to go through all of this for nothing. At least I learned from your mistake and it seems to be the mistake of others by not ordering anything from them. I am here not to bash A2. |
this sucks. so much for getting A2 to work on my car next year. :(
|
Here's my opinion:
you pay for what you get. Obviously A2 didn't do much to inform their customers on what they will be getting. I don't understand how is this entire setup is supposed to work. Injectors, I still don't know if you finally got them or not. Tuning, you said the pipes will connect to one MAF so you will be able to tune the car right. I asked you how? No answer. Let me tell you this, Lancers with turbo also use MAF. What makes you think they don't need tuning??? Kids, do you research first. Drucea jumped on this product first with not a lot of knowledge. It's not his fault, I realy don't want to pick on him. It's A2 who didn't provide enough information on what will be required to run this product. |
Definitely sucks, hopefully A2 sees this and responds/ sets things right.

well this was supposed to be an easy thing according to phil. he said it would be like any other intake upgrade. just reset the ECU and it would automatically learn. because it retained the MAF.
i emailed Phil & Aaron a link to this thread i hope they respond. |
I think drucea should give us some more information on what is going on. Maybe something is not connected correctly? Maybe it's the fuel rail, tuning, .....

i emailed Phil & Aaron a link to this thread i hope they respond. That's fine but the intake manifold is supposed to come with injectors. Did it? Did drucea get them? If not, he runs too lean and can't stay running....daH! |
Well it was also supposed to be a bored 4G93, come with a bored fuel rail and piping that fit.
|
I wonder why it isn't running. The fact that it's not 4G93 or ported or with bored fuel rail wouldn't make the car just die out. I think it has to do something with the fuel supply, vaccume pressure, or TPS reading. I don't know and it's hard to tell right now.
|
I would guess not enough fuel. If it was an air leak the car would run, but like sh!t (or your motor would blow). Might be vacuum, introducing a new source of air might have dropped it too low.
|
Not sure how its funny but rather a good thing......Gives the customer the ability to log a complaint in person if they choose to. How would that not be a good thing?
|
You're right ambystom. I think it's fuel too but we can't help if we don't know for sure.
It all depends if the car is running for a short time or doesn't start anymore...and such. |
Yeah it's nice when the complaints or suggestions are small things, like increase the porting a little or change the color, etc. but when its parts not coming, manifolds not being ported, or parts not working at all, that could leads to a lot of shouting and he said she said.

Gentlemen. Last chance. Keep it on topic.
