0-60 times aren't so bad for OZ.

What's up everyone, this is my first post, but I've been reading this board ever since I bought my OZ last week. Yesterday I came across a website that has performance times for pretty much any car out there. From what I've been reading everyone thinks that the ES, LS, and OZ are the same car, yeah they have the same engine, and same hp/torque, but the OZ does have better times then the ES. I kinda feel better about paying the extra money for the OZ, at least I know it's not just for appearance purposes. Also I noticed that the OZ has better times then every other car in it's class. The times aren't that impressive, but what do you expect with the amount of hp/torque :mitsu: gave us. At least there not a complete embarassment. Here are some times I found.

Lancer - 0-60 1/4 Mile
02 ES - 9.27- 16.87
02 OZ Rally - 8.80 - 16.60

CIVIC -
01 EX Sdn - 10.30- 18.00
01 EX Coupe - 9.00- 16.50

Protege MP3
(140hp/142 lb. ft. torque)
02 MP3- 8.90- 16.80

Ford Focus ZX3-
02 ZX3- 9.00- 16.90

Toyota Corolla "S" -
01 Corolla "S" - 8.80 - 16.60

The Dodge Neon R/T had better times then the OZ, but it has 150hp/135torque. Like I was saying the times aren't the greatest, but what do you expect when :mitsu: only gives us 120hp/130torque. Anyways the OZ looks 100 times better than any of the other cars listed above, and 100 times better then 75% of the cars on the road right now. :mitsu: kicks ass.

The OZ definately looks better then all of then...hey did you get those comparison's off Edmunds.com?

Pachanga Mar 19, 2002 10:54 PM

Sorry, I forgot to post where I found these times. This website has them
http://www.autosite.com/ also www.car-stats.com has times, they all get there times from Car magazines.

How is it that the OZ is almost half a second faster with no modifications made to the drivetrain or engine?

Pachanga Mar 19, 2002 11:21 PM

The only differences I could find are the OZ has a rear stabilizer bar, bigger better tires, and less weight distribution to the front of the car. www.autosite.com got their times from Motortrend, how they did it I don't know, but they use professional drivers, and their a legitimate magazine.

Interesting stuff...The weight distribution should be relatively close however...time to go research.

0-60 and 1/4 mile times

This months issue of SCC has a pretty neat rundown they call "8 great rides" where they list the times for 8 cars, Focus, RSX, MR2, Celica, WRX, etc. I'll try to remember to post them later.

Saw that to. Good issue. Most of those cars though have far superior handling and power characteristics compared to that of a Lancer...cars like the Rex and the Focus SVT (which is the one they reviewed) are not to be trifled with.

You'll get different timeslips from all different resources. Also, the looks and other things are just a matter of preference.

Interesting times..

OZ faster?

Teh ES and the OZ have the same Tranny and engine. How is it that it is faster? DO the lighter wheels really add that much? I own an ES and i saved my money because all i needed off the OZ look was the wing. Ass far as i know the TEchnical specs are all the same

pjal84 Mar 20, 2002 01:43 AM

Eh...it's all 'bout where and how the information came to be. Different mags, websites etc. will have different time from different tracks, driver etc.

DEVOTED Mar 20, 2002 07:40 AM

Maybe the ES was Auto

evo penguin Mar 20, 2002 10:55 AM

DEVOTED Mar 20, 2002 11:01 AM

maybe the ES driver was 120 lbs heavier than the OZ:lol:
