Idea's
I've been doing something thinking, I just recently installed my AEM CAI (which is extremely nice mind you). I was wondering what other mods should I start on next. As of right now I'm torn on three mods (I can only choose one). New camshaft (have no clue where to acquire), Greddy Catback system, or ECU.
I've done search's and looked into it, but in reality I'm still very torn. I like the numbers I've been hearing about the camshaft however I don't like the idleing problem. Exhaust seems excellent but I'm probably not going to get more then 8hp at the wheel with that add on. Lastly, the ECU seems to be another nice addition, good gains 10-12hp however I would be loosing more gas milage and I would have to spend more money on 91 octane fuel. What are you takes on this, I'm still quite confused on what to upgrade and what not too (at this point in time). I'm not that car savy of a person, but as in everything in life I'm learning as I go. Add: I just hit 27K, should I be thinking about a tune up...does anyone know what that is gonna cost me? |
No one has any opinion about what I should do. Kind of stuck in a pickle between these things. Unless anyone else has a totally different opinion on what to go for, Trust me I'm all for it. Thanks :)

Hello,
Sorry no one can answer your question. Sounds like you want nice horsepower gains without the negatives. This is pretty hard in modding. In my case I have only limited cash flow, but I'm saving up for the throttle body and Intake Manifold. Both of these mods will insure great throttle response as well as boost up the horsepower! If you're looking for more power than these right now, think about the headers. |
On the intake manifold on the RRM website it says a 150 dollar core charge, WTF is that talking about? Then I have to pay 80 more dollars for BLUE, OMFG.
|
It means that you pay the $509 bucks for the manifold ($80 if you want the blue powdercoat). They'll send you the part, install, and send your old one back and they'll refund $150 once they receive your old one (core).

dont get an exhaust yet, if you're like me then you'd hate the sound, but i guess a lot of people like it. I would say just get some headers. Kamikaze sells headers for like 280 shipped or less. This is probably the most worthwhile part for the money (so I hear) The AEM Cold Air is nice, but doesn't add any real horsepower. My car feels the exact same, but sounds better. So basically just do some reserach on what you want to do exactly.
|
yeah, best bang for your buck is headers. If you're planning on adding boost later down the line you may want to spend the extra cash and get the rrm one, which doesn't get in the way, otherwise like punk said, the kamikaze one's nice

Not particularly fair to call the lumpy idle a "problem", since well, it's really not. Wanna know why everyone likes the sound of a big V8 at idle? It's because they ingest tons of air just sitting. Since the car runs rich from the factory, the cam furthers that seeing a ton more air, but you get great gains throughout the power, as well as a great exhaust note. All that really needs to be done is lean it out a bit at idle or go Ura9v's route and plop a cam gear in and adjust the timing a few degrees.

Actually the ECU improves gas mileage, but you'll still probably spend more on gas if you use 87 octane now.
