Import to Canada?

Mitsubishi will be opening their Canadian distributorships in 2003 North of the border.

In the meantime, IF the Evo does make it over here, does anyone know what can be done to get one across the border?

I presume some paperwork and taxes are involved - but what about testing of any sort?

Advice appreciated

Madbrit, do you mean importing from Canada into the U.S., or vice versa?

madbrit Jul 28, 2001 11:32 PM

It would be importing from the US to Canada. Canada will not have Mitsubishi dealers for the next two years.

This being the case, if the US did somehow manage to get the EVO next year, I would hope I can get one - but wonder what paperwork / taxes may be due.

Advice appreciated

I did some research on importing into the U.S. a while back, but not Canada. Importing a car into the U.S. from Canada isn't very different from importing a car from any other country. It's not easy.

Sorry, but I have no idea how Canada's laws work when trying to import into Canada from the U.S.. I would say one thing in your favor is that if the car meets all U.S. safety/emissions requirements, then it might also pass Canada's since our laws are pretty strict.

You might want to check out this site for info on LHD Evos available for import for sure as race cars, I'm not sure about regular driving in Canada.

if is registered as race car is it legal in legal races on public roads?

Sparko Aug 26, 2001 11:58 AM

If you import the car, and it meets all class requirements for that racing body you are a member of, then yes, sanctioned races ANYWHERE are legal. The "road course" is, for the duration of the race, a closed circuit, and the only reason you couldn't race is if the car didn't meet class requirements.

im pretty sure if the car meets u.s safety and emission standards it should meet canada's since the u.s is really strict or atleast i think so..

This is a bit more Tech related than Rumor related, moving to Tech Help.

what about one lap of america?

Thanks Sparco! That was a great site to gather information from. I only wish that fellow's experience was based upon Ontario laws as opposed to BC laws. I imagine the Canada Customs part does not waver much but being an Ontario denizen may offer some other choice road blocks I'm sure. :)
