Poor Man's Noisy Exhaust?

Well, i got bored today and unbolted my muffler, that massive thing we get stock. I am actually very pleased with the noise coming straight out of the pipes but i noticed the idle RPMs dropped a bit to ~750rpm and they jump around slightly, nothing more than a 200rpm jump or so. 750-1k range. So i have some questions regarding this.

1. What problems could having the muffler off cause, if any?

2. How do you actually remove the muffler from the hanger closest to the tip? (the one without a screw.

Right now the muffler is actually still hanging, i just kinda bungied the pipe and the muffler up and away from each other, its ghetto but it works .

Nothing permanent but just something to mess with in prep for learning what im up against when i actually replace it.

Actually i lied about the idle RPMs since i just sat in my car again and drove it a bit, RPMs in Park dropped to 750RPMs as stated however in Drive or Shift Mode they drop to 650RPMs and drop to 500RPMs when it does its "jump" but never goes lower than that. Less engine rotations = better standing gas usage?

1. The exhaust gas isn't leaving out the back of the car.. the heat could/will melt something. That is one of the reasons you see the CF heat sheilds... it is useful when you buy an exhaust that doesn't quite stick all the way past the bumper.. And when sitting still the fumes could get in the car..

2. If i remeber correctly.. it is a rubber mount... pull. be careful when it comes off... its a heavy b****.

As for your idle... that is why you get a tune after you get an exhaust... different airflow.

my exhaust (INJEN SES) does that every once in a while after its already warm and i start it up a few mins later while its still hot itll drop down to about 650-700 then go back up to 750ish.. and for that last thing i used a screwdriver to pry it a bit then lots of hand force but be careful i cut my hand on a FU#*% zip tie.. haha

if you have no muffler, the fumes could start to soak into the car, since they arent clearing the bumper

It's even more fun if it starts snowing while you're trying to remove that last hanger, or so I found.

Squirt a little WD40 onto the hanger - it should be pretty easy to remove. And again, as everyone else has already said, that monster is frickin heavy - be careful.

Thanks for the info guys, i may be getting a Greddy Ti-C so this will help alot. And trust me i had a jack under the exhaust ready to hold it up once i got it off the hangers. Btw, Will i have any problems with my bumper burning with the Ti-C? i really dont want to get a CF shield but i also dont want to burn the hell out of my bumper.
