Bushing Upgrade... Create Your Own...???

One of the other engineers at work told me with the OEM bushing you can scale them (measure) and create a homemade mold from the dimensions of the original and pour your own... Have anyone ever heard of this...?

It makes sense to me, it's all about tolerance, and fabrication... Does anyone have any experience with Mold Fabrication or where you could attain the raw material to make your own...??? I'd be interested, OEM bushings suck, the've had problems for years with them making a bunch of racket (sqwells & sqweaks). My '08 has nearly 54k miles on it...

Bump...

Rock, can you tell me if RRM is planning on producing urethane bushings to replace the P.O.S. Mitsu rubber bushings for the front lower sway bar and the front rod ends...? As you probably already know, I've replace the rear sway bar with your product that updates the rear sway bar and its bushings, so I think I'm good for the rear... My front bushings make a lot of noise, which bugs the crap out of me...

Any comment from RRM or any one else...?

What exactly should I expect from changing the control arm bushings to polyurethane. I don't have any problems with the stock ones. Except for the first month when I got my car the rear suspension would make a noise when going over speedbumps but that stopped.

Benefits to Urethane: Lasts a long time, doesn't deteriorate, stiffer, more resilient to higher loads on the member it supports, more responsive to driver input and most of all Urethane doesn't squeal or squeak. Better material then rubber hands down...

Mine started making noise at around 50k miles, I'm sure you have less miles then that, huh...?

There is a book for suspension design that covers making your own bushings. I'll see if I can dig it up. I have also heard that local machine/race shops will make them for you. I don't know of too many autox guys that still do this. Most of them replace the bushings with ball bearings. Here is a good link if you are considering bearings:

http://www.aurorabearing.com/product...s/default.html

which i got from:

http://farnorthracing.com/autocross_secrets5.html

Mean time if you are concerned about the rubber bushings, they sell a spray can of silicone at auto zone which will prevent the rubber from cracking and minimize the noise. I'll see if I can find that book.

Wow, thanks for all the advice... Definately will help, I'll post if I get anywhere with my bushing issue... I'll check out your links, but I don't know what to think about bearings, due to my car being my daily driver...
