2003 lancer Temperature control knob

2003 lancer Temperature control knob
So my temperature control knob broke. I went to the dealership and they said to fix it will be 940$..yeah no thanks..
Apparently you have to take the dash apart to put in a new spline (40$). A new knob is 15$.
Does anyone have any experience with replacing that spleen? or maybe know a video or a tutorial on how to get it done?
