Don't Scuff a Rim.

Omg today I was getting lunch and I scuffed a RIm on a curb..stupid SUV cut me off. Anyway I have this pet peeve so I called the dealer to find out how much it would cost to replace it... $883.00 plus TAX..OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are theses things made out of Gold?

DAMN!

if it's just curbed and not bent then you can probably get it fixed for ~$200

Karan Sep 20, 2007 10:10 AM

ouch :( gotta do your best to stay away from curbs as much as possible.

:mitsu: That SUX! remember that they are "18's so that jumps up the price :( and any time you get anything from the dealer it will cost you an arm and a leg.

The overall rim is not bent but the edge is...who can fix it for $200 a body shop?

Find an alloy wheel repair shop. Many places will refinish rims if you are willing to pay.

Thanks for the info....

most dealerships have a guy who goes around in a truck and fixes wheels on cars that are traded in etc so they can get top money... you might want to ask a couple dealers who they use for wheel repair.

option 2:

buy another set of wheels (even just ~$800 rotas) and wait a year or two for a few people to wreck their cars then you can get a wheel for cheap.

There are stock rims on ebay for under 500 shipped. And thats a complete set. Check that out before you give your left arm to your dealer.

I've seen some or one up on Ebay last night!

I'll second the idea of looking for someone who specializes in refinishing wheels. I had a shop (Wheel Worx) near Baltimore refinish two Porsche wheels for me. They did great work for under $200 per wheel. I'm sure you can find something similar closer to you. You might also just try a body shop.

I actually once refinished a set of my own alloy wheels. The shape made it a bit difficult to get an even spray, but they came out looking pretty good. Your wheels are just painted/clear-coated aluminum. You might just try the nearest body shop. Anyone with skill spraying paint should be able to do a good job.

Think of this as a good time to get an aftermarket set of lightweight wheels. :D The stock 18" GTS rim is too heavy!

Agreed. The heavyass OEM rims aren't exactly something I enjoy having on my car...
