How To: Front Bumper Removal

Well here’s the tutorial for removing the front bumper for those who just can’t quite figure it out or for those who just wanted somebody to be test subject. Guess I’m the lucky guy huh.

2008 Lancer Front Bumper Removal.

Any way without further a due, the main attraction.

Tools required

Philips screw driver
Flat head screw driver
Ratchet with a 10mm socket and an extension

Total time 31mins including photographs

Start

There are five metallic hex bolts on the bottom side of the bumper right in the centre. These bolts secure the bumper to bottom road debris protector covering the bottom of the block.

Remove the four Plastic Snap clips from the debris shield on bottom of the passenger side by prying out the centre piece out and remove the clips from the bumper a put aside.

The do the same from the drivers Side, this time there’s only three.

Now you will have to turn the front wheels of the car so you can get under the wheel well. Both sides are the same so it doesn’t matter which way you choose as this part applies to both sides.

In the wheel well toward the bumper are two more plastic clips, just with a Philips head. Use you Philips driver to remove these two clips.

Repeat for the other side.

Remove the screw that’s securing the bumper to the fender, normal Philips driver will do, or you can use the ratchet and 10mm socket.

Repeat on the other side

Remove the black plugs located on the lower grill hiding under the license plate and remove the two bolts there.

Pop your hood and remove your air intake by removing the two screw clips with the Philips driver.

Remove the other cover under the air intake opening, by popping the four plastic clips with a flathead driver.

Now remove the 5 Metallic bolts that hold the bumper in place, and disconnect the fog lamp connector….if you have them.

Yank…and I do mean yank the sides of the front bumper away from the car. It should be pulled up but the fender is in the way.

There is also a rather large clip located on the inside under each headlight. The gap isn’t big enough to get your hand inside to properly unlatch the clip so I just pulled some more and it popped off.

The bumper is now fully disconnected from the Vehicle and can be removed Like so…

And for those who were wondering what was behind that round cap on the front bumper

And that’s it.

Cheers,
AJ
