Stock speakers & Chinese Audio units

Hi guys

New here, just recently bought a 2010 Lancer Ralliart. I am loving the car so far, but i have a bone to pick with the sound system . The owner before me installed an aftermarket unit with android, which is all fine and well since i was going to do that myself. BUT, i'm not particulary happy with the sound. So ofc i started looking for new speakers, but it hit me that it might be the stereo?

To make this short, how good are the stock speakers? Since i never had the chance of listening to the stock audio unit i have no idéa if this is as good as they get. I might be picky here, but the "S" (snare sounds?) are too prominent for my taste.

Advice please .

I assume you tried different EQ settings...

Can you add a active parametric equalizer in-line with the audio out/RCAs to the car system (do you have the RF (Rockford Fosgate) Mitsu amp/speakers?

I would think its the stereo......probably inputting too much or not enough signal voltage into the amp, causing distortion (assuming that its factory amped). They don't list output voltage in the description which raises some concerns.

I would bet that a low-end $150 Kenwood unit would sound better.

Before you buy another headunit - be more specific than 'not happy' with the sound... Too much bass? Too little? Too much distortion? what?

And, which system did it replace? The Rockford with separate amp or the base radio w/out amp?

This will help guide suggestions for either adding an amp, replacing speakers, or...
