just had a thought....

i just had a thought.......is it possible put a shift boot in an auto? i know bmw autos have them and thats where i got the idea from. i'm not trying to pose as a 5speed but i just like the look a lot better than that ugly gear selector. i know it will take a lil diy custom fab but if it's possible i think i'll buy a shift boot and do it.

If a normal shift boot doesn't quite fit right...I don't see why you couldn't have one stitched up. Hmmm...interesting concept. I'd say do it and start a trend. Just don't forget what gear you're in.

yeah but how would i keep the bottom of the boot secured? thats what i'm worried about. it's easy to know what gear you are in because of the clicks, it will only go down and up so far to each gear with out pressing the button so i'm not worried about that. i'm thinking about getting that razo aluminum auto shift knob that u press down on instead of using the button also. i think that would make it look clean. does anyone have a spare shiftboot they don't want? there's gotta be someone whose replaced theirs and has the stock ne lying around.

EDIT::: Just remembered why.... your going to run into the problem of connecting the top of the boot to the actual shift knob (on most stock cars (m/t), the shift knob is threaded onto the shift boot, which is threaded onto the shifter, or has a molding that places it near the top..... the problem is, there isn't anything like that on the auto shifter for the lancer... yea theres threading and yea, you could just tuck under the other end of it under the shift panel (it would be rectangular shaped unless you made a plastic disk molding that would give it a round appearance).. it would work, but i think it would be rattling and move around alot... wouldn't look all that great i dont think... give it a shot though if you want, best thing i could think of at the time

already though about this about a year or so ago... i dont remember really why i gave it up, but i just remember it wasn't working out :-\ ... good luck with it though, lemme know if you get somethin that works
