Scratch Repair Suggestions?
It's an unfortunate thing that I can't wash my own car in the winter due to lack of an outdoor spicket, the 2" of ice that covers my dirt driveway, and my lack of garage. So that leads me to wash my car at an autowash a couple times a year and one of them was today.
I noticed when I got home a 3" scratch on top of my trunk lid though, which is pretty deep. Naturally, I'm a bit frustrated and annoyed by it since I've only had my car for a little over a month, but now I've got to figure a way to fix it.
I could just buy touch-up paint, but I'm never happy with those results and this is in a pretty noticeable place. I've tried kits that supposedly flatten out touch-up paint so that you can't see there was a scratch on previous cars but have never gotten anything to look better. It's a little too deep for scratch remover products and I really can't justify the cost of just having the trunk lid repainted.
Anyone have any suggestions?

if you have access to buffer and some cmpound and glaze 2000 grit sand papper and touch up paint you could wet sand the touch up paint then buff it up jus becarefull not to burn through and you could make it look preay good make sure you fill the scratch
The problem there is that you really can't stop sanding in the middle of a panel. I'd have to repaint the whole trunk lid if I did that. I tried this on another car with the hood and definitely regretted the way it came out since I wasn't willing to repaint the whole hood.

Alright... I suppose I'll try again then. I suppose that the very worst case scenario is that I have a little bit of dulled black there which will be better than the scratch. And I imagine a body shop in the area would probably be able buff it out for me pretty cheap if I can do most of it.

My sunroof was the factory option - I think the 2002 OZ didn't have that option, but the 03 definitely does.
I've gone by Sight/Sound lots, but don't know anything about them. They have in their windows lots of ads for stuff they do. I'd guess sunroofs would fit with what they look to do.
Where in MA are you?

yeah 02 lancers didn't come with the sunroof option. I hear your pains of driving in winter conditions without acess to a heated garage. I put washer lights in my car in -5 degree weather. Michigan sucks when you have a nice car.

I forgot to answer here - I went by the store a few days ago and saw that it's not Sight and Sound, but instead it's Sun and Sound. They're on Park Ave (Rt12) in the area of Friendly's, Midas, lots of auto parts stores. They're a little tough to find because they are set back from the road, but definitely visible. They are on the right if you're heading south on 12.
