18s are hardly racing rims either, especially on a lancer.

I'm sure you do, I'm just saying they're not racing rims especially on a lancer. 15s or 16s are better for actual racing.

The big problem is the weight, and the size. Lancers in anything but turboed form (and even in most cases anything but stage 2 turboed form) simply don't have the power to turn large rims as easily as they can smaller rims. This is magnified when you have a large diameter rim where the weight is held further away from the source of power. As an exercise in this, take a 5lb weight and hold it close to your body. You should find its easy. Now take that weight and hold it at full arms length. You'll find you simply can't maintain it for long. The same holds true of a car. Tire roll really isn't that big of an issue, plenty of people have noted that they've actually had greater success in terms of autocross using 15s than they did using 17s. If you really want to get into racing, I would suggest buying a set of smaller rims, if not just for the track. Can always drive around on the street with the 18s if you want that bling look.

It doesn't matter what the raw weight is. Again think of the example I described. You can probably hold 20 lbs close to your body easier than you can 5 lbs at full stretch away from your body. Weight is only half the story, the actual size is a huge contributor to the problem.

Amby's right actually.
What sux tho, is that 18s look better on the car than a 15" or 16" wheels, cus they fill the space. Smaller wheels usually look too small for the car once you have a kit and all, so it kinda appears... ehhh I dunno, just "not right" IMHO.
