I had a small accident about a month ago with my Silver GTS. Damaged the tip of the hood (it is bent and is rubbing the right fender), the front bumper, grill, front tie bar, and the reinforcement bar and foam. All needs to be replaced.

I got a few quotes from shops and a friend of mine but was really discourage. Total estimates, including labor and paint, ranged from $3,600 and $4,000. It's not really a hard fix, if i had the parts, i could easily install it, though i dont have paint equipment. So, just yesterday, i took matters with my own hands, along with a hair dryer, yes a hair dryer, and mended the damage so its easier on the eyes.

Forgot to take pics of bumper while it was off and also how it looked like before the fix. But here's the thick Reinforcement bar. Lucky me, Radiator is untouched

To my surprise, it turned out great. But yes its still an eye sore. I was planning to put some vinyl on the center before the accident happened. Though i went ahead with chrome piece and below the grill as u may see. I also went ahead and replaced the oil and filter. I dont know bout you guys but that filter is a *****!!! My wrench was a little big so took me almost half an hour to get it off.









I was really desperate for replacements but after seeing the end result, i will probably take the spare 3k and get those Coilovers and Rims that ive been wanting before all this happened. I'll probably order the Reinforcement bar in a few days. I can leave the foam and straighten it, that thing cost $150! Ridiculous. lol

P.S. Apexi Silver owners, Please contact me if u want to sell ur OEM bumper and Hood. Money is ready.

 

why not just pick up some aftermarket bumpers and such?
since you need to have them painted, might as well upgrade!

i had a front crash too, but my insurance paid for the repair so they didnt let me pick upgrades =/

 

thought about it... i actually canceled an order for a bumper from ED after a week of waiting.... I dnt think ill worry about paint if sumone out here has a silver 08 n willing to sell their factory parts. I dont like how CF looks. Also im planning to sell it in a year or so and hopefully upgrade to a Ralliart or even an X. The economy is in a fluke right now so there isnt much yielding going on in the stock market. Once Bush gets out of office im sure itll turn around. That's prolly the best time to upgrade...

dont get me started on politics.

getting back to the body kit stuff, if you sell your good parts, like your sides and rear bumper you can still get good money for them. enough to subsidize some of the new bodykit

 

That's friggin funny. Way to spend money on aftermarket parts when the car looks half assed and it's BRAND NEW.

In a few years you will be one of those people with a car that has rims worth more than the vehicle.

You are complaining about 150 for a bar and want to spend a lot more on stuff you DONT NEED. wow

Get your facts straight.

I wanted an aftermarket bumper first thinking it would save me money. But after
calculating the cost, and knowing how much work for fitting and preping FG piece is
for paint, im better off with factory replacements, hopefully, someone in
the lancer community with the same Silver Lancer will be willing to part with their OEMs.
Im already talking with a couple of people.

The Thick Metal Reinforcement bar is $400+ - the Foam is $150.

And what? You think ill be getting 21" chromes? lol.
I will be getting a set of DC6s through a network which will only cost me $800.
There is no coilovers available yet so i am going with the Tein S-techs/RRM Springs worth $150-180.
By the time ill be selling this car, it will be all back to stock. Stock rims, stock
suspension.

Im working on a business economics major so i know something about rational thinking.

 

in early-mid june im gonna go with the evo X body kit.and sell my GTS body kit on ebay or somthing..and also get the evo X wing..

i think that kit looks really good i just was trying to wait for somone to come out with a better looking rear bumper

 

Seriously though, fix the car before wheels/coilovers.

 

Thats what im doing right now. Im talkin with people who has OEM Parts. The
damage is all cosmetic (other than the reinforcement bar) which is barely noticeable so its tolerable to wait. If the parts come in soon, ill hold off from the wheels and
springs.
