quick update...

well whatever started the fire certainly did the job. the insurance guy came by today and is saying that the car is probably totalled based on his results.. they call me tomorrow about it.

it seems pretty hard to believe, but i guess its the problems that COULD happen rather than the problems that he actually sees.

if anyones got some prior knowledge of this please let me know. i gotta make a list of some things i wanna take out of the car and they will let me know if i can take it out (aftermarket etc)

id be interested in your oz lip kit (sides, front/back) if you're able to part out.

That F'n sucks ballz, did they atleast find the source of the fire yet? And it looks far from a write-off, but like you said it could be them looking at the potential problems and not the current ones. You should see if you can possible salvage the turbo-kit and re-sell it, to try and make back some of the money. Unless it was insured, and the ins company is paying you for it.

well.. thats the thing really.

it was insured, so they will pay for the base model car and tow the other one away if they deem it "totalled".
but im wondering how much stuff on the car i will be able to part out before they take the car back if thats the case.. maybe just the stuff i can replace with stock , who knows

So you still don't know what actually caused the fire? And the insurance wont let you buy the car back if they total it? I'd try to if it is cheap enough.

As far as insurance companies go they weigh out the book value of the car based on trade in (1k less than private sale) and how much it would cost to repair the car to its previous condition, aftermarket parts are NOT included in your insurance. So they're giving the estimate based on a stock hood, stock paint, stock engine parts, which most likely can easily eclipse the Kelly Blue Book value of an 03 Lancer OZ. My suggestion would be to take whatever they're gonna pay you out and keep the car with a salvage title, and rebuild whatevers needed (aka upgrade hehe). Do it all yourself. Get a new hood, replace whatever hoses/wiring is needed, take that valvecover off and get it sandblasted and powder coated, and take the remainder and get yourself an intercooler and run some piping :P

^Sounds like a plan there. And if your not getting payed for the aftermarket parts or keeping the car swap em all out with stock ones!

Damn man! Thats wild that happend to my cars sister. I would have to agree some one did that. There is no fuel near the front. There would have to be a spark to even ignite something.
I can't believe some douche bag would do that!
I'm scared for my car now. Are you still in the Aiken area?

thanks for the support guys. still have no idea on what started it..

i think my only choice is to try and get the car back right?

i mean its either: i pay 1000 deductable and get some odd 4k for a seminew stock lancer.
OR
keep the car i paid 8500 for and try and make it a fix.
because they arent going to let me part-out AND give me the 4k

ill prob just talk to them after new years

im in lexington greenbandit, same car, wrong guy

If they pay you for the car, your personal belongings..(aka aftermarket parts) are yours still. but u would need to replace the stock parts technically, depends on what it is... my sisters car had about 5k in mods, including sound system, suspension and a few other things. she had all the receipts and the insurance company paid for it so we left it, they wanted to much to buy it back, and the parts we were paid for (THIS RARELY EVER HAPPENS). AND. her car before that she wrecked i gutted and just put the origonal parts back inside it, and we swapped all the parts onto my car (she has totalled 3 cars, all have been modified)

whenever someone i know gets in a wreck, i check the car on scene to see if its repairable or not(i have alot of buddies, normally 3-4 times a year a bad wreck happens, and they all know to call me). if its not repairable i have to dropped off at my house, and we start gutting it. and taking off are personal belongings(aftermarket parts) and try to put the stock parts back in, dont even have to hook them up, just in about the right place..

no u can gut the interrior and sell the seats, but if u had racing seats, take them out and put the stock seats back in before insurance guy comes to see it.

unfortunately he has already seen your car and taken pictures. if u have any stock parts, swap them out for the aftermarket ones.. that goes for rims seats, TURBO PARTS, everything u can think of.. do it.. doesnt matter if he buys the car and tries to take it.. or if he buys it and u buy it back.. take the parts off

he has seen your car yes.. but those parts are your personal belongings. take them off. he has no say in that if u have the stock parts to put back on it.
