Hey I asked the same question a few months back thinking I could do it myself. I got no answeres eventually took it to a shop they did it for 50 bucks and damn it was a lot harder than I thought it would be just watching confused me.

hooking the tach up is SIMPLE
the only thing that makes it difficult is if your car doesn't already have a tach... which ours DOES.
the tach should come with instructions that are incredibly easy to follow. generaly there are 4 wires on a tach.
12v
Ground
Dimmer
RPM Control wire/whatever you want to call it.
