are HID's irresponsible?
i've been doing a lot of reading lately on hid's, and i'm curious if you guys think if HID's on lancers are irresponsible?
this is because, as you know, we don't have projectors to focus the light and provide the necessary cutoff to reduce glare, so unless we retrofit something like that on our housings, we are emitting a ton of glare at other drivers that might impair their vision. so whats the consensus? are our housings designed well enough to cut down on glare and provide focused light? do we know we are blinding drivers and just not care? reason i'm asking is because i want to get hid's cause frankly they look cool, however, i always get pissed at suvs and trucks and other cars that don't know how to turn their lights down cause it blinds me on the roads, and it would be hypocritical of me to get HIDs while criticizing these people |
just point them down. took me like a minute to turn the knob all the way so it would blind anyone
|
which kit did you get? hows the glare/cutoff line?
|
on the regular ights not blacked out, i would say yes!...the glare that comes off of that stockies suck, however with the JDM cedia's, they look great!!!....i do have them pointed down a little, and peoepl do say that my lights ae bright, but look good without a glare....
i am thinking about retroing ture d2s projectors from either an evo or s200 one day, but nothing immediate yet |
i have HIDs on my...but, it is not a kit, but a OEM HID retro using Audi 6 projectors. since the headlights are reflectors and the way how light beams are emitted through the reflectors, you would be blinding the living crap out of people by just installing a kit no matter how far down you point them. one way to prevent glare from kits are by blocking light from emitted from the bottom of the reflectors either by painting the bottom part of the relectors black or by using a casper shield to block the bulbs from emitting light. BUT, once you do that you are loosing light output.
besides, if you want the kewl look of hids...go OEM retro because it is the lens of the HID projectors that produce the nice color (purple-bluish and even rainbow color if you mod the projectors right) and NOT the bulb. the lens acts like a prism and when you shine light through a prixm, you get all these kewl colors. and, like you say...projectors focus the light more where you want them to be giving you a very nice cut off and a nice bright foreground. don't waste your money on a kit when later down the road you are going to say...damn..i should of went oem hid retro. they both cost about the same. the only problem is that there is more work involve in oem retro as oppose to getting a kit. GOOD LUCK! |
yeah, i guess my only thing against retro fitting it is that i don't want to go cutting into my nice new cedia housings :D
i do think retro fitting is the way to go though, i just wish there was an easier way |
you can always buy aftermarket headlights for under $200 and use those for your retro while keeping your cedia housings.

i have HID and have them pointed down, the driver side more than the passenger, no one yet has flashed their high beams at me. Edit: they are as irresponsible as you make them to be |

YO, yeah, the stockie headlamps we have, produce great light output, but the glare is crazy. i've got blacked out headlights now, and it reduces the light output, b/c you're lacking the chrome that used to be on the bottom, but other than that, it's a more clear, focused look - i wanna get HID pretty soon.

you guys need to seriously get your info together. I have hids and stock housings. Aslong as the lights are aimed properly you will not be blinding anyone. You may if you are going over a hill or hit a bump, but thats normal with any hids because I get blinded everytime a BMW or Mercedes hits a bump on the freeway. The only difference in terms of glare is that there is a few spots that do shine a lot more than stock. I did a lot of adjusting when I first got my HID's from XenonDepot and did drive by's with my friends in there cars and trucks. We did runs both from behind, and comeing from the front. The cars used were a miata lowered to 2in (don't ask), a 67' for mustang, and a 1995 dodge truck lifted. I've had my lights for almost 6 months now and have only been flashed once and I can see alot better than stock and don't even need my hi beams. HID's are only a problem when its some idiot honda owner who keeps the same headlight alightment that he had with his halogen lights. The hids them selves are not irrespoinsible, its the drivers who are. Take your time when you get them and when you install them and you will get beauties like these
<--------. If you guys want more pictures or movies I will post some showing glare patterns and stuff, the camera likes over exaturating though. -Justin |
^you serious;y...need to read what we post....
i have had my lights for over a year and and no one has flashed me because my lights are too bright.... our whole point was that on the stock headlights...there will be glare...that doesnt look good....thats fine...whatever you like to do...goto hidplanet.com and talk to thsoe guys, and see why its not a good idea |
