Best Vented Hood?

It seems that the stock hood does a great job of keeping all the heat trapped in the engine bay:mad: So what is the best vented hood to help release the heat?

You don't need a vented hood, the underhood temperatures are more than fine. Moreover, a vented hood may not reduce temperatures if it's design isn't optimized.
As far as options, you have Seibon, Vis Racing and RRM.

I like mine... carbon fiber vis

If heat is an issue, wouldn't you need to get hot air out as opposed to getting cold air in?

ThunderOZ Sep 28, 2008 01:38 PM

if you look at the way the center vents are constructed, they actually pull hot air out as I drive and the vent on the driverside lets cool air in...

I need vents...

Is that grill removable? I'd like to keep my ralliart grill

ThunderOZ Sep 28, 2008 02:34 PM

it seems to be... It has all the screws and stuff behind it to take it off...

If you are not boosted (or even if you are) I really wouldn't worry about it.
Even when boosted, my old oz did not have any heat issues with the stock hood. I did switch to a vented hood similar to that in post #3 and did not see any performance gains whatsoever..

My suggestion, keep the stock hood unless you are strictly going for looks, as an aftermarket hood will definitely look better than the stocker.

I wouldn't see a problem with the temperature under the hood. If the heat was that bad then mitsu would have put a vent on the hood stock, right?

Well they didn't intend on the car to be turbo'd either...

you can put the ralliart grill on it, but you have to cut off the two middle bolts tho i believe.

I say keep the stock hood and save your cash and go big later on ........

i did have to remove the posts on the back--but if you have the hood you won't need to worry about the factory grille attachment points. zipties and a cordless drill work perfectly. {thumbup}

my issue with the hood was that there are a lot of cracks right at the top corners of the vents and all along the inside perimiter of them. i think this is more because of my car and what the previous owner may have done rather than the construction of the hood. i think that the car was roughed up a bit on the front end and as a result of this the hood doesn't quite fit right. this was much more noticable with the CF hood but i got it to fit as good as it was ever going to. does anyone else have issues with cracking or splitting on their hood?

there was a page on this in some car magazine i read and on the GTR it gave 30hp with the hood being open so they decided to try S13 with switching hoods and it gave 18 hp from switching to a vented hood.. they couldnt try with the GTR cause i guess their wasnt a better vented hood out yet..

ThunderOZ Sep 28, 2008 10:40 PM

Yea it all depends on how hot it gets under that hood...
