kensuke's 18x8 DUBS update (no more rubbin =) !!)
1 Attachment(s)
alright, so today i decided that i was finally fed up with the rubbing issues and that i'd just take care of it...
worked out quite nicely actually. i had about 1000 miles on my wanli 225/40/zr18 setup and the rubbing was driving me insane! i didn't wanna mess up the body by cutting into it myself, so i decided to size down a bit. went into les schwab where my dad gets his tires for his trucking company, and they once again hooked me up. took the tires back for $10 off each one, put on some new proxies 215/35/zr18 and didn't charge me for labor. all and all it only cost $218.64 more than what i had before... that's some real customer service. without a doubt i'll be going back for springs there, even if it's a bit more expensive. oh, and about the OLD rubbing issue... it's all better now! :headbang: {thumbup}  when 3 people sit in the back, it still rubs a tiny bit, but it's much better. this could be cured by some 2 or 3 mm spacers, but i don't really have the room to put them in  the only thing that's worse now is the gap. holy hell, i'm looking at a 2.5" gap in the front, and a 2" in the back. with the right tires, rims, and offset, i'll bet u could fit 20s on this car (umm.. but why would you?). in all honesty, i wouldn't recommend 8" wide rims. if you must do it though, go down to a 215/35 tire... that's as big as you want to go with 18s. i should be fine dropping with these now, and the rim sticks only 1mm from the tire... almost flush like the 225s were. if you're worried about bending rims, don't get 18s. honestly tho, u shouldn't have bent rims unless you let your tire pressure go too low. i really do not want blown struts, so i'm not sure that i'd drop any lower than an eibach sportline or progress... i would go with coilovers, but i'm not interested in realigning my setup every time i change my ride height (prolly not often, but then why pay way more to stay at one height?). all in all, i'm very happy. no more rubbing and i should be fine now as far as width goes. i'll post some better pics tomorrow in the daylight, but here's a couple shots in my garage. (sorry about the blury... camera shook) look at this gap... 2.5" |
