IDR's Non-Intercooled turbo with Pics!

5 Attachment(s)
Hey lancers,

Finally got my non-ic turbo kit last week so I'm gonna start installing it soon. Started doing some of the steps so It'll give me time when actually time to install it. Also got the headers but will install it next time since RRM accidentally got me the older one. You have to pinch one of the tubes in order for this to fit. But they already have the pre-made one so I'll just swap em' Sending back the RRM header back for a swap.

Any comments welcome, I'll take pictures as I go and updates for you guys.

later...

Everything looks good. If you cant fit the standard bolt in there go pick up a allen head bolt and it should fit in there just fine. The head is smaller so it should clear

how much was the kit??....im interested on a non-ic kit. i love the rrm non ic but i gotta save up for that jammie.. =)

Thanks, good idea. I'm gonna pick one of those allen bolts. I got this kit for $3000. It hurt my wallet a bit. :crap: But I hope it'll be worth it in the end.

IDR, Congrats on the kit! I had the same fitment problem with the downpipe to turbo connection. (Bolt head clearance) If you have access to a grinding wheel I grinded some of the weld down in that area. Rob is now aware of the problem and he pulled them off the shelf to get fixed. One thing I noticed in the pictures if you have the dump tube connected to the BOV. The side port should connect to the manifold to TB pipe. Bottom port is dump tube connection. Let me know if you have any more questions as I just installed my kit. PM me or email....late....

thanks dookie, still somewhat confused on some of the included accessories.

1st Pic: There's a threaded hole in the turbo, what goes in there?
2nd Pic: What is this tube for?
3rd Pic: And these fittings?

1.) the top one, WHEN YOUR TURBO IS MOUNTED, is for the oil cooling. the side front and back ones, WHEN YOUR TURBO IS MOUNTED, are suppose to be for when you wanna to kool your turbo.

2.) That line i think goes between the wastegate and the nipple of your turbo.

3.) as for number 3 it looks like one of them is suppose to be for the oil return tap. mine looks exactly like that but it had another peice to complement it. Also, i only have one, from what i can remember. maybe some of these pics will help you out

Hey what's up twinkie, you got the non-intercooled right? How is your pipe setup? I'm still trying to figure out where the K&N filter will go. Will it go under the driver side bumper OR below the U-shaped turbo-to-intake manifold piping, when the turbo is installed?

Thanks for the pics, but here, let me put a yellow circle to see what I'm talking about. (see pic below)

The first yellow circle (top) is that hole I was asking. What is this hole for?

The second yellow circle (buttom) is where the turbo nipple is. The 2nd pic on post #8 (that's the tube) I tried fitting it in the nipple and the tube is too big for it, so I doubt it's for that. And the tube is not that flexible compared to the other rubber tube I got.

Sorry it took a while to get back to you...I have been messing with my turbo myself. Anyway, the only threaded hole you need to be concerned about for your turbo is the top one; it's for the oil inlet. Don't worry about the other holes. The nipple is what is routed to your wastegate. The really thick and hard shelled lines are to run from your Vortech FMU to the fuel rail and stock regulator. For the wastegate to turbo, use the small vacuum line. It's tough to fit over the wastegate nipple, but it will go. For the other two loose nipples you had, those go on the FMU. Leave the top one alone, but replace the middle and lower one. For the middle one, you will have to cut the fitting to get it to spin off. Make sure to use thread sealant when installing the new fuel and oil fittings too. Well since I am giving Road Race advice....lemme try this....haha

Initial D... didn't you get instructions. There are several pictures and in the instructions it tells you about the FMU and replacing the two fittings with the barbed ones you posted in pic 3 above. Dookie is right your 2nd pic is the extra fuel line given to go from and to the FMU. Looks like your missing two fittings. One that goes into the oil supply above your oil filter and the other is the one that goes into the oil supply on your turbo. Call RRM and get them sent to you ASAP. You need them and the turbo one is a special thread you won't be able to get.

Thanks to Dookie RRM is now aware that the welder got carless and welded to close to the one bolt location on the downpipe. This will be corrected. For now either use Dookies advice or get the hex bolt like you mentioned. Seems like everything else is going ok for you. Call RRM on your fittings and i'll be sure to kick someone about it as that is a mistake. They'll correct it ASAP though.

Kit looks nice. Can't wait to see it working and hear the tales.

Boe, diagrams would have helped me piece together where all the stuff go. I could not comprehend some of the wording so I was a little lost in some parts. Pictures are not clear and I think they need to put more pictures especially the important parts (which is all of them). I think numbering all the parts would have helped too. Who knows what a 90` AN fitting is?

Boe, I'll give them a call again and ask for those fittings you were talking about. Plus I already returned the headers and it's on the way to RRM. Payed $20 for shipping the headers, what a waste of money and time for your customers, RRM. Was somebody there drunk when they were packing my turbo kit? Keep in mind I waited 3+ weeks for the kit and the delay is because the painter for the piping painted it red or something else. haha u guys are crazy, better tell your inventory to get their sh*t straight.

that's RRM for ya

initialDRacer Sep 19, 2004 09:36 PM

hey thanks. Everyone here's been really helpful so far, thanks guys {thumbup} Boe, thanks so much for your help, really knowledgeable when it comes to turbo and I can really depend on you when asking questions. Justin, the pictures on the piping really helped me out. I'll keep you ya'll posted.

Going to call Gabe tomorrow for the missing parts, I think he is the only one who handles the phones there, he put me on hold a couple of times. Sorry RRM, I know you guys are busy. Hopefully this incident doesn't happen to all your customers.
