Questions about winter tire/rim setup

Hello! New member here! I want to get a set of winter tires/rims for my 2009 Lancer GTS. I've been looking around online at different specs and I wanted to pop in and see if anybody had any input.

It looks like OEM Mazda and Hyundai wheels have the same bolt pattern and hub sizing as Mitsubishi. I guess my question is, would OEM 16 inch rims from for example a 2014 Hyundai Elantra GT fit on my 2009 Lancer GTS? Or on the alternative, a set of 1998 3000GT SL 16 inch rims fit (the 3 spoke rims)?

TireRack appears to have 16, 17, and 18 inch configurations available.

I think it would fit, I'm just worried about the brakes being too big since I'm currently on 18 inch rims. I'm also not super savvy with cars, so I could very well be missing different factors to consider as well.

Any feedback wound be super appreciated! Thank you in advance!
