Help? Shot shock?

Hey, recently bought a Lancer GTS that came with Tein suspension was looking to raise the car up a bit and saw that one of the rear shocks looked like it may be bad. Probably a noob question but don't know if I should be concerned and look to replace it or if it's fine and just dirty. I've attached a pic of what It looks like. Opposite side looks fine, comparatively.

PS. Also I feel like there is more play in the suspension on the side pictured, compared to the opposite side.

Thanks in advance for the help.
