has anyone had a problem with 1st gear popping out when you engage the clutch? It doesn't do it all the time but occasionally it will and i can't figure out why it would be doing it.

 

Mine is sometimes "anxious" to get out of first but never slips out unless i assist it.

Edit: Then again im blind and didn't look at what kind of car we were talking about.

 

Do you drive with your hand on the shifter a lot? Sometimes doing this will wear the shift forks down.

 

Ya, like Sap (sorta) said - I do not know if ES and Evos can be compared here - but for Evos there is an engagement adjustment rod, here is the Evo how to:

alot of the time i do have my hand on the shifter but that's just mostly 1st through 3rd

 

i have also noticed that i doesn't do it that much when i engine break but if i just push in the clutch and brake it happens more often

 

if you arent completely stopped after you say back out of your driveway and you put it in 1st sometimes you shifter will want to pop out.

 

dont know what to tellya mine has never done that not even with the short shifter

 

Mine seems anxious to jump out of first like SAP said when the RPMS are right but i never thought of it as a problem as it doesnt jump out without a little tug

 

happens to me to alot.. eversince i had a stock clutch.. it did it already too.. and now i have a stage 2 act.. it still does it.. but thats when im completely stomping on the gas.. its like telling you shift now.. im not sure if its just because of torque?..

 

If it popping out under load...and it sounds like it is for some of you--you likely have worn syncros 1-2 gear. Could be the fork--but if you have been banging gears 1-2...then thats likely your issue. M

 

true tho.. it is the snycros.. thats what i was told too by my mechanic.. and i do believe him... the thing is i dont baby my lancer.. i drive it hard.. ive been on my 3rd clutch already.. luckily the tranny was still alright upon inspection...
