Why does the cvt in manual mode doesnt reach redline?

Why does the cvt in manual mode doesnt reach redline?

i tried to reach redline with my cvt lancer and it doesnt even get near redline it doesnt change gears until i change it but it wont go to redline?

Its to stop you from blowing it all to hell

Its called a rev limiter, the CVTs are stopped at around 6k or 6.5k i think. its been awhile since ive brought mine up to the limit.

so does this mean that there is no governor, or is that another name for the rev limiter?

Yeah, the rev limiter stops you at 6.3-6.5k. All it does is cut the fuel off to keep the car from revving beyond that point, just a safety measure so you don't go and blow up your engine. Even though the engine can probably handle ~7k rpm, they set up the computer that way so the engine lasts longer with the stock tuning.

i am in australia and i can make my lancer go to redline in any gear i want ( i got cvt). hmm lucky me although its not like i want to redline it lol

on a stock car (like the lancer) there's practically no power up there so it isn't like in the traditional sense that you keep on revving and it will produce more power.

it's not that great of a powerband. . .

^^yep. power drops off anyway, no point to go higher. Also, if you are in neutral you will notice that you can only rev to about 4K. The CVT ECU has things locked down pretty hardcore to reduce wear.

I think the theory behind it is that at higher PRM under load, variable gear ratios increase heat by a higher factor. I think the hope was to restrict the RPM range to reduce heat. I think in Maylaisa I was talking to a guy who spoke of CVT overheating issues, 3 laps at ultra high RPM would cause the CVT overheat message to get tripped. I think they resolved the issue, this was a while ago.

Reving your engine is no good for the engine, really not good for if you have a turbo. lol think of all the gas that goes out the window

i guess if you had a trans cooler maybe you could push it too redline (obviously you would have to mess with the ECU)?

yes and no, transcooler helps, and beleive me it should be a must, modded or not. But heat is the only thing that can kill this tranny, heat weakens the tranny belt and other intensively used parts.

in the CVT Lancer, I think the tranny brain is as big as the engines.
