Automatic transmission to manual for 2003 lancer oz

I need to change transmission on 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer OZ manual, gave out at 145k miles. The only problem is I cannot find manual transmissions anywhere while automatics are readily available. Somebody mentioned that I could use the automatic transmission if I just swap the flywheel it can become a manual transmission. Is this true and how easy/hard is it to do this

Well you'd be getting rid of the flywheel and installing a flex plate. As far as the swap, you would have to get a pcm(and get it programmed by a dealer), the manual lancer's use ecu's. The difference is the pcm manages the motor and transmission(it has programmed shift points), where the ecu just manages the motor. You'd have to install the automatic gear shift as well. I don't know about the manual axles being compatible with an automatic though, another member may know more about that. It may be cheaper and less time consuming just to get the transmission rebuilt.

Don't get a A/T just go to a garage and im sure they will find one for you if you pay them to change it.
