3rd gear grinding

Just purchased the car a little over a month ago with 64000 miles and the past week it has developed a grind going into 3rd only. The faster you shift the worse it gets and if you pause between 2nd and third it i doesnt grind at all downshifting only if younrev match perfect. I have a feeling it is my syncro. I dont want to take it to the dealership and pay a couple grand to rebuild it but everyone i talk to says they are having trouple getting parts for the transmission. Has anyone else delt with this issue? Am i better off getting a low mile transmission and putting the oil cocktail in or having dealership replace the syncro and hope other parts dont fail later

Synchros need some friction to work properly, many boutique tranny oils are too "slippery". Drain whatever puddle water the previous owner put in the tranny and put in genuine Mitsu oil preferably MZ320340. This is the most logical and cheapest first step.

In the documented failures in the EVOM older Ralliart section, it seems like the common thread is using aftermarket oil. I'll get stick for saying that but its true.

I track my plain old Lancer and use this oil, transmission works mint after ten years. And read this reference from an experienced shop: http://www.jackstransmissions.com/pages/oil

If you still get grinding after the oil change, will need to take apart and investigate what is worn/damaged.

Cheers.
