Unhappy i searched but couldnt find

today i was cleaning the filter on my sri and i decided to adjust my idle because lately i have been idling low (from what i read on the boards) at about 500 rpms with no accesories running. So i adjust my idle to about 600-700 rpms and now when i accelerate only at a certain percentage of throttle ( i would say about 20 to 30 percent) there is a weird high pitched whistleing noise coming from my throttle body...it is very annoying. It sounds like air is hitting a certain spot on the inside of the throttle body or MAS or something...any ideas on how to fix this?

Also is 700 rpms the proper place to be idleing at while warmed up?

PS...the sound reminds me of minivans for some reason....i have heard this sound coming from other cars on the road before while riding along side minivans and old hondas and it really bugs me...

depending on the temperature and humidity i will idle between 550-750 rpm's ....usually somewhere in the middle of those two...if i drop below 550 i stall.....regardless, did you just adjust the throttle cable to leave the car at a slightly opened throttle at all times? if you did that....well lets just say its not good. you should have adjusted it with the idle speed screw...if you need a pick i can get you one.

adjust it back to normal and see if your noise goes away. If it does then you adjusted too much.

How many miles are on your lancer.....a failing battery or altenator can cause idle drop also. May want to have that stuff load tested.

k ..in the morning ill let it warm up and try adjusting it back...i have about 41k on the lancer and the battery has been changed once...i never thought the idle was a problem because at 500 rpms the engine didnt seem to be stuttering or trying to stall...always thought it was the normal idle rpms untill i read somewhere on the boards that its supposed to be around 600 or 700...so i adjusted and now i have that whistle...but ill try fooling around with it in the morning

if you haven't had any problems with it idling at 500 rpm's i don't see why you can't adjust it back and leave it that way...if it wasn't lumpy, stuttering, stalling, etc. i think you should be fine how it was.

ok today i realized tat it wasnt fully warmed up...so i adjusted the idle back to its normal position and it is actually higher (700rpms) and the noise is gone...only problem is now my check engine light came on...i read the code and its P0401 (egr flow insufficient)...i cant figure out what is causing this.
