High revs in park?
Howdy, all...
I'm new around here and looking for help with my 02 OZ automatic. Got 93000 on it already and its started a crazy habit. Now and then the engine revs up to 3000+ rpm when I put it in park. Put it in drive and it goes back to normal. Sometimes it happens right after turning it on, sometimes after I reach my destination. Length of trip does not seem to matter.
Any advice would be helpful.
Cheers!

The car is bone stock, 93000 miles. Just bought it used about two months ago. The mods are yet to come...
COME ON FOLKS STAY ON TOPIC.....LOL
Do you know if your car was taken in to the dealer to have the PMC reflash recall?
PMC, meaning the ECU.
3oooRpm? that's pretty hight. Maybe on a cold start it should go that high, but just switching back to park it shouldn't. Even if your Rpm's were that high, just shifting it into D would make the tranny pop or make a funky noise. Do you get the same reaction when you put it in Neutral as oppose to Park?

If memory serves, the rpms drop as soon as I shift out of park and before I hit any gears. I don't recall hearing the tranny pop, either. But then, You have to go through neutral to get to D...
Hi, I dont post here very often, but i vist the website often. Well Im having the same problem as "killerbee", but instead when u turn the ac on the car revs to 1500 to 1700 rpm every 20 secounds or so. I eventually got tired of it and started adjusting the idile thingy, that piece of string that control idle in the engine bay, well i set a little lower so when i park it doesn't rev up that high. I also did the sea foam things and it helped out alot. it still does it but not that high, the only mods i have is an simple intake and a magnaflow exaust. what else can i do to control this problem??? I hate spending GAS!!!!!!!! by the way reflash was done already.

yeh i get the same problem. i start my car and it revs right up. and also revs up and down when the AC is on. I dont think its a big deal. but if sum1 has an answer that'd be cool.
well the whole thing w/ the A/C is totally normal. Remember when you turn that sucker on, it activates another belt on the engine to start rotating. So when your revs go up, that's just the engine compensating for the extra load. No need to worry. totally normal.
yeh thats what i figured. just making sure though. how about the massive engine rev when i first start the car up. mine jumps up to 2000 revs. And i live in florida so the engine cant be THAT cold. lol
alright.... so i guess i'm just another oz owner having this reving itself problem...
mine is a 03 with nothing done but aftermarket rotors and brakes... which have nothing to do with the engine... obviously...
i know the rev when the ac is on is normal --> not worried there
i know the high rev when i start the car is normal --> once again not worried there
my problem is after driving around sometimes i will be in neutral (i drive a manual) and it with just start to rev itself. it happens when i'm stopped at a light or just park the car. it doesn't rev itself all the time... just every once in awhile. it rev to like 2000rpm and than drop down. and it does this when i'm not running the ac.... i can run my car hard or just drive in it and it'll be this whole i'm gunna rev myself...
not sure what the prob is... i've had it at the shop and had a diagnostic check ran about a month (maybe a month and a half ago) and nothing came up. they left it on the machine for an hour and found nothing.... but obviously theres got to be something there over-looking...
if anyone can give me some ideas what it could be lemme know please! as soon as i get a list put together of different things it could be i'm going back to the dealership and showing them the list of possible problems and making them check everything...
as of right now... here is what i've heard it could be...
1. air control sensor
2. o2 sensor
3. intake

check the Idle air control valve and the EGR valve, completely clean out the throttlebody as well and check the vacuum control solenoid and the engine solenoid’s. there’s three solenoids and it’s attached to the throttlebody in between the engine and throttlebody, it’s a *****. I still have the rough idle issue and same PO104 code basically saying it detects a low exhaust Signal
