Latin Lancer: OZ or Ralliart?
Latin Lancer: OZ or Ralliart?
I live in El Salvador, in Central America (south of Mexico, just in case).
I'm very happy because last week I bought a "Lancer Ralliart" at the Mitsubishi dealership. I was upgrading from a two door car because my wife is having a baby in two months.
My Lancer has the Ralliart insignia on the back, "carbon fiber" dashboard accents, black cloth seats (with red dots) 4 disk brakes, ABS...
But then, it has a 2.0L 4G94 ENGINE with sequential Automatic transmission!
Sequential transmission is fun because it's got these "+" and "-" buttons on the steering wheel. Chassis is CS6A.
Oh! and 15 inch OZ tires.
I'd like to discuss what you in the US would call this... "thing". (There's a picture attached.)
So, according to you, did I get a "Ralliart" car with a regular Lancer engine, or did I just get an OZ Lancer with Ralliart decals?
I've read in the web (edmunds?) that the OZ trim was just the looks and the motor was the same. The Ralliart obviously had the better engine. A 2.4L 4G64 as far as I understand AND 16 inch tires. However, that's as much as I know about the OZ.
I'd appreciate your enlightment.

I also want to bring to your attention that ALL of you in the US should feel VERY BLESSED!
I compared a lot of cars from the local (Salvadoran) market lately and I fond out that most (if not ALL) our cars are somehow downgraded from the ones you get.
For example:
-Lancers start at 1,300 cc, then there is a 1,600 cc (regular and sporty) and then there is my "top of the line" Ralliart 2.0L... at US$19,000 (yes, our currency is US dollars too)
-Mazda 3 starts with a 1,300 cc engine, then a 1,600 cc (with only 15 inch tires) and tops with the 2.0.
By the way, the 2.0 Mazda costs US$26,000. It's not even the Sport hatchback.
You get 2.0 and 2.3
-Nissan Versa (known as Tiida over here) has only a 1.6 L engine here. You get 1.8 base and in our hatchback, the rear seats don't slide forward.
-Ford Ecosport... I wonder if you even have this model over there. 1.6L 4x2 here.
I think you only know the Escape.

Peace!

I wouldn't say you have it too bad. OZ Racing makes some nice, fairly lightweight wheels, as opposed to the steel wheels my car came with(mine is the lowest trim, no options...). You got a nicer interior than our OZ from the sound of it, and we didn't get the sequential transmission option. Our OZ's also didn't get 4 wheel disc brakes. Depending on your country's emissions laws, you might have gotten a little more power out of your stock engine, as ours are fairly puny from the factory. I'd say you got a Ralliart that's exactly as it was meant to be in your market. Every country seems to get a different kind of Lancer. Japan has all wheel drive options, we have a bigger engine, you get sequential transmission.
from what i can tell that looks to be a ralliart. but of coarse with the 4g94 im pretty sure you guys just got screwed on import laws. much like we do with everything else. everything north american motor corporation ends up with the the detuned everything, like the evo's or even the ford focus. if you can get and underhood shot and maybe a badge shot im sure the code guru's on here can decipher every option that the car should have just from that.
Dealer swapped in a G94 and called it a Ralliart... Poor guy!
Nay, that car you got is MUCH nicer than our OZ's up here; but not the same motor as our Ralliarts up here... You have 4-wheel disc, we don't have. You have the + & - shifters, we don't have. You have ABS, and according to my research that is rare on our OZ's.
So besides the engine, you got a nice ride there!
