Thin paint prone to stone chips?
what colors are your cars?... I have a rally red.. and so far I have had not issues with paint... I drive 40 highway miles.. "one way" to work everyday.. lots of crap sticks to the front of the car.. but with a good wash on weekends everything comes back to normal..
I am surprised that everyone is having so many problems with paint. My graphite grey has held up just fine. No scratches or chips at all and im going on 4 months of owning it. The only complaint I have is that birds seem to use my car for target practice and its usually an hour after washing. If I do get some chips in the paint, is it covered under the warranty. I would think not because paint chips are wear and tear. Any one know if it is covered.
My girlfriend has had her car for one month now, a lady backep up her car into her Lancer and the paint came off... the bumper is fine. A day later someone drove by and threw a plastic cup against the car and the paint came off again... a plastic red cup!!! I mean really!! Oh, it also cracked the front chromed grille. She just got it replaced. I'll be fixing it and coloring it black. Looks so much better.
From what I can see on her car, the black grill part and chrome part are 2 separate things. The plastic cup hit the front grill and broke the black part off. It's really weak and I'm sure we'll see a lot more of that around here. I'm not sure how to take it off as it's still in the car.
Hey,
Has anyone else noticed that the paint on the new 08 lancer seems to be pretty thin?
That's what I'm assuming based on the fact that I already have a few stone chips on the driver and passenger doors down to the bare metal and it seems pretty thin.
I used to have an accord, corolla, matrix and chevy cobalt and the paint seemed to be less prone to chips all the way down to the bare metal...
Would a good waxing do any help to prevent future stone chips?
Kevin.

your cobalt didnt chip? i traded in my cobalt(black) for the lancer, that car had the thinest paint i have ever seen, i had chips EVERYWHERE.. i swear leaves scratched it one time. i'm so glad i got the color i got for the lancer (aqua), IMO i think metallic paints seem to not show as many scratches and hold up to chips better

I don't have a problem with the paint except for the front bumper....it is coming off in very small flakes right on the edge if you lightly run your fingernail down it. IMOH it doesn't have very good adhesion to the plastic bumper. But other than that I seem to have a decently thick clear coat. I old have one scratch that went all the way through the clear coat, most are just surface.
As for paint warranty, stone chips and other flying debris isn't covered, think about it guys?!

I tried to wet sand a small chip on my pillar and It went right to the primer. I have wet sanded a lot of cars before but this is stupid. Tomorrow it get paint blended on the pillar. DOn't wet sand or hi speed buff you lancer...trust me.

How do you take the chrome lip off of the grill.
