high rpm, no power

I have been driving my manual 2003 Lancer OZ for 150,000 miles now and it is finally starting to give me problems. besides electronics, never been modified, never been raced.

I notice now that whenever I step on the gas, in whatever gear and whatever speed I am in, the RPM shoots up extremely fast. It takes a while but then comes back down to normal. When the RPM shoots up there is absolutly no power as you might of expected.

I notice it is also very difficult now to even put my stick into first and second, and feels as if the gears are not "catching" and responding like they use to.

I am accelerating at a crawl, especailly in the highway. I can still reach higher speeds but takes me a long time.

I recently had an oil, tranny fluid, air filter, plugs + wire change. Any suggestions? Is this a tranny problem or a fuel problem?

it's a lancer problem...it's your engine, your car is slow.

Welcome to owning your lancer.

+1, very slow car, but to be perfectly honest it is your clutch. It is slipping. 150K is a very long time on a stock clutch so congrats.

That is all, purchase a new clutch, go heavy duty if you want and install a LSD (Limited Slip Differential) It'll help with launching your car a bit more as it'll give power to both front wheels instead of just one.

Thanks guys, I checked out the signs for clutch slippage and looks like thats my problem.

I put it at a complete stop and try driving off in fourth gear and it let me without stalling. It would of never done that when I first got it (not that I really tried).

Yeah, the clutch for sure. Being able to pull out in a high gear is the first sign, also you can try and go up a hill in a higher gear and the RPMs will shoot up but not speed. Same thing. Go clutch shopping..... or new car shopping..... just kidding. Good luck

I think the Raliart had one, the older 2.4 SOHC unit. If not get the cheapo Phantom Grip units as you don't make enough power to over run the unit.
