Help 2003 Lancer lots of white smoke at startup only
Hello all, I have a 2003 lancer with 175,000 miles. It’s my daily driver.
When I start the car up in the morning I get a lot of smoke (worse on colder mornings). It’s white and thick. It only lasts 2 minutes, but it creates a cloud. After the engine and exhaust warm up it goes away completely.
What are the possible causes?
There is a hole in the exhaust under the driver’s seat, and I am wondering if this is allowing excess condensation in the exhaust while sitting for a while? Could this be the cause? The smoke started shortly after I noticed the hole (loud exhaust).
If it were head gasket it would blow white smoke other than startup only right?
Other info:
No oil / coolant mix
Oil level low, but due to leaking valve cover gasket
Thank you,
Mike

From what you're saying it looks alot like a valve stem seal problem. When you turn off your car the oil leaks through the valve stem seals and into your intake manifold and combustion chamber. The next time you start your car it takes a couple seconds to burn all of the remaining oil that went down through your valve stem seals and into your combustion chamber/intake manifold. Im not saying that's your problem but from what you said it looks alot like it. Good luck
