%&#!@ damn top strut mount... NEED HELP!!!
everyone said it was hard getting the top strut mount off but never really explained how they got it off... even if at all they did. so if there's anyone out there who actually got the damn thing off, can you share that little secret? i spent the good last 6 hours of sunlight yesterday trying to get it off... PLEASE HELP?!?!
oh, i called around for part #MB991682 that was suggested to take it off and none of mitsu parts dealers have any in stock or are able to get a hold of one. bastards! damn them all to hell

I just picked up some Evo dampers today, mine in fact, which I am selling. Not sure they are the same as yours? The Evo dampers are KYB made, and there is a rubber part in the middle of the mount that you pull out, then undo a bolt. But watch it, the spring is under (a light) load and might jump off!
Sorry for the useless comment if yours are different.

which top mount? front, back, both?? if its the front it took me forever to get those bastards off.... i unscrewed the whole top mount, took off the strut and hacksawed it into half just to get that nut off!
If you are talking about the nut that holds the spring on the shock itself, an impact wrench is the best way to get it off. If you are talking about the three mounting bolts on the strut tower mount under the hood, a rachet will do. E Mail me if you have any questions on spring installs. I had to do mine 7 or 8 times to get it right!!!

well i have the whole assembly off... it's 10pm and i'm still trying to think of ways to get the nut off. damn...
i basically have in front of me that pic Link286XT has posted. i tried getting that 1N nut off with an electrical impact wrench but the bastard wouldn't come off. i have no way of holding the strut steady to get the nut off... i'm pulling hairs here!!!
thanks anyways people. i appreciate it...

hehe, thanks
but anyhow, i've tried pentrating oil, wd40, and liquid wrench. none of them worked. i'm giving up and bringing the front two struts to a shop and seeing if they can just get them off. then i'll try my luck on the back two. haven't looked at the back two yet... good luck to me.

I took my car to a shop to install the Eibach Springs and to take that nut off they mounted the strut mount into a vise and used an air tool to take it off!
Anyway, I have to bring the car back to a different shop today to get the springs reseated. getting lots of noise.
