Are 02-03 ES injectors slightly different or exactly the same as 04+
Are 02-03 ES injectors slightly different or exactly the same as 04+
TLDR: I have searched for two days and have yet to find a definitive answer. For the 02-03 lancer the dealer only lists one injector MR507252 . The description says the injectors are specifically for Eclipse/Galant with 2.4 or Lancer with turbo 2.0. But if you go to the vehicle fitment it does indeed list these as fitting the 4g94. Starting in 2004 it lists MN128318 as the injectors for the Lancer 2.0 w/o turbo and once again lists a different p/n, MN183292, specifically for cars with 2.4. Rock auto and others list them in the same way, as if the 02-03 4g94s use the same injectors as the 4g64 but 04+ 4g94s use injectors specific to themselves. So do the 64 and 94 actually use different injectors and the listings are wrong or do they both indeed use the exact same injectors in 02-03.
Full Story: So I'm trying to help a buddy troubleshoot his 02 ES. Basically the car was idling rough and misfiring during driving (only code was P0300). He took it to a shop, after it sitting there for 3 months they called and told him he needed new injectors. They replaced all 4 and the car ran great. For 2 days. He went out the third day and the car would barely start and wouldn't stay running. He called the shop and they said they refused to do anything. Saying they no longer wanted anything to do with the car and simply refunded him the labor and the upcharge on parts from the work. Ultimately he ended up just paying for the parts at their cost. Anyway, he called me and I came over to check it out. I could instantly could hear a pretty solid vacuum leak coming from in between the top of the intake and top of the valve cover. So I did the ole carb cleaner diagnostic and when I sprayed the isolators of the cyl 1 and 2 injectors the idle shot up and the car ran good for about 10 seconds. Ok, cool Injector isolators are bad. Maybe the shop reused the old ones or somehow damaged the new ones when they put them in, easy fix. So I pull the injectors and one by one I see they are all brand new and have all brand new perfect looking seals and isolators. So now I'm like maybe they accidentally used the wrong injectors and/or isolators as they seem to be just barely too short to actually seal. I looked up the pn of the replacement Bosch injectors the shop installed and they cross-referenced to the MR507252 injectors. So now I'm really confused as on the surface its appears that the correct parts were used and installed correctly but for some reason they don't work. So this is where the TLDR rabbit hole above begins.
