Anyone Else's Lancer come with low coolant?
Hey, I just bought a 2008 Lancer GTS Saturday, and while I am very pleased, the next day I was doing some inspecting and configuring (setting up the music server, nav, etc) and took a look under the hood and noticed that while my coolant was not empty, it was not full either. IIRC it was at about 3/4 full?
Has anyone else noticed this in their cars? Is this normal or should I be worried? I have a mechanic who lives across the street from my parents that we're friends with so I'll prolly just go over there the next time I'm home to get topped off. I've had no overheating problems, but it did just catch my eye and I was curious if I was the only one. Thanks! :mitsu: |

as long as there is enough in the reserve tank where its not running out when the engine is cold then its fine. but yeah I noticed mine was a little low also and will just have them add some when I go there next.

Nothing to be worried about. You wouldn't begin to overheat until the coolant level came in well below 3/4. You're probably not the only one, but something like this is such a non-event to most people on the forum that it's not even worth posting about...it'd be like starting a thread telling people your oil is 1/4 of a quart down...just fill 'er up and move on.
not to mention I am coming from a car that burned oil off faster than i could pour it in. (96 Saturn SC2..was my first car), so whenever I see anything lower than optimal, I automatically think the worst heh. |
i wouldn't worry when I had my car serviced at 4000kms they just topped up the overflow tank and its been good ever since

Probably just a matter of the factory filling it up, but there being some air trapped inside the motor. Once you drove it a bit, the air was removed from the system, which made the coolant low.
(Does that make sense? It does in my head.) As an example, last time I did a coolant flush on a car, we filled the car with coolant, then turned it on and ran it until the coolant circulated, then refilled because it got lower after the air escaped. |

In my earlier years I was a (and still am) a computer/electronic techie, so I mean, I could probably figure out anything involving the electronics of my lancer,

mine came like that too. I noticed it when i got my first oil change. Mitsu prolly did that to lower the price... cheepos. haha

Yeap, mine was around 3/4 when i got my car. i wonder why they nv top up to full. And i just went for my servicing yesterday and the top it up full.

i didnt think it was possible, but mine was at a little below half, took it in, they said the usual speech, ya well it could look low but the coolent system returns alot of coolent as well, i said could you start it up and look at it see what happens. they said ya it dropped a little more.!
ok so they said they topped it up, i looked , ummm ya so it is, get home. look again lol friggin thing is like so close to overflow its noteven funny lol. so i would say its normal |
when your cars hot it appers thatyou have little to no coolent, but when the car cools down the coolent level rises...

I took a drive around the block a few days ago, 2 minute drive. I get home, look at the coolant it was bellow "LOW", so I topped it off as well.

Like I said above, thats the answer dont top it off becasue it will overflow
