Sun Damage Carbon Fiber
So I got an evo 8 spoiler it had a little sun damage on it, I ignored it and it got worse. I have heard that you can fix it your self, but I dont know how, nor have I ever painted anything on a car before.
Also, I was additionally considering painting the carbon fiber black if so what would the steps be to do that? |
took mine to a body shop and got it fixed for $75.00. i tried to fix mine myself and it looked like s!#t after 6 months. get it fixed by professionals with the propper uv clear. mine looks better than new now for over a year.

has anyone tried painting over the carbon fiber...i know nothing about painting but one shop I took it to said it cant be done...I also read them as not knowing what they were talking about...

Yes you can paint over but why would you want to. As he mentioned he had it done for $75. If i we're you i'd just sand it down to the carbon and then just have them reclear it. This way you save on labor cost. Check the how to section. There's a write up of the repair on it there. Paints going to cost you more than a re-clear no matter what. And either way sanding need's to be done. So better get to sanding.

I would prefer the look of the black paint as opposed to the carbon fiber. Cost is not as much of an issue as long as its under 200. But thanks for the tip in the how to section.

Hey I looked at the DIY, and talked to a couple shops and got mixed opinions. When you sand the spoiler are you supposed to get a specific type of sander or do it by hand?
|
You do it by hand with varying grits of paper. and you go Rough to smooth with the different grits. the idea is to get all the old off and then sand it down to almost a clear like finish. You want it as clean and smooth as possible or the paint/clearcoat will just chip off as time goes on.

So does anyone know of a good shop in SoCal?
