Engine Won't Turn Over

So I have an 03 Lancer OZ and it only has 66,000 miles on it. I just put a new battery in about 6 months ago and now I have a problem. I think it is the starter but I will let the readers figure it out. FYI I cant get it to a shop to check.

I open the door, the light comes on. I put the key in and turn it over and the radio starts up, the A/C kicks on and the dash lights turn on. I turn it to on, everything goes off as if it were going to start and then nothing. No click, no attempt to start...NOTHING. So do we think it's the starter (easy fix) or something worse?

It's likely your starter.

Did you notice it making any kind of metal scraping sound during starting previously? When my starter was going it started making a nasty metal scraping noise then when out like a week later.

sounds like the starter

There was never a scraping sound but it did struggle to start. I know this all sounds obvious but I just want to make sure that it isn't anything else.

Yea bro,
Almost for sure gotta be your starter.

Does anyone have a diagram or video about either how to find the starter on an 03 oz or how to replace it? I want to do this myself and would like to have a pic of where it is..

its on the bottom of the car, like all others, I would imagine. Should be easy to get to, just drop the undertray.

Download the 2003 oz service manual here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/la...able-here.html

It will have a step by step on replacing the starter in the index file.
Hope this helps, replacing a starter is very easy to do.
You will need to jackup your car and put it on jack stands to do the job though.

mci2727 Aug 27, 2010 07:24 PM

Hey I just thought,
Get the car jacked up on jack stands, find your starter and make sure you figure out which wire going to the starter is the ground and which one is the 12+ positive wire and then make sure your starter is connected good to the ground and take a jumper cable from your positive and touch it to your 12+ post on your starter and it should engage and turn the engin over, if it doesn't and you for sure have good power to it then you need to replace your starter.

P.S. It will spark so be careful!

So after 2 hours of struggling, I managed to pull my starter out, took it to Napa and replaced it. Total work time - 4 hours 10 minutes and my car starts like the day I bought it...PERFECT!

Thanks to all that helped me out and good luck to you all!

I've done a few of them and you'll find that the jobs take less time next time.
Good job.
Happy to help.
