need some quick suggestions... 2006 oz
Driving to work this morning ... lots of snow on the ground... well, while I was driving, my engine seemed to lose electrical power, but not completely. The lights dimmed and my heater felt like it went from full blast to about half... I didn't seem to lose engine power or anything, but I was only going like 25mph on snow. Then suddenly I could hear this kind of squeeking from the engine and the electrical kicked back on. Did this 2-3 times.
Altenator? Maybe some kind of belt (squeeking)?I don't know... I am a car noob... haha |
Check your battery terminal and clean off any buildup with some sandpaper and see if that helps

Its possible that snow or ice/water got into the alternator belt and caused it to slip. That would keep it from charging the battery and cause voltage to drop until the belt caught and started spinning the alternator again. The alternator and its belt sit quite low and to the rear in the engine bay and arent shielded by the undertray. Thats just what popped into my head right off the bat.

^^ding ding ding^^ Your belt caught some water/ice and slipped. The alternator wasn't generating power for the battery. You need to get your belt tightened. 10 minute job max.
