it has similar pricing to a wrx, what would you buy? It cost more than a srt4, but doesnt have better performance, what would you buy? Same price as a rsx-s, runs similar time... but the rsx exterior/interior blow the ss out the water. SpecV/Ralliart, yeah they'll need bolt ons to keep up, but MMNA R/D team is looking @ putting a turbo on the ralliart and selling it on the market (ask rob from RRM), if that finalizes.

Turbo Ralliart > SS
actually, does'nt it have track tuned suspension on it.. fro what i hear, its one of the best domestic sport coupe.?

i think it looks pretty nice. i really like the fact that alot of companies are now making performance cars in the 20K range.

sorry guy wake up... spec v, rsx, ralliarts are not even in the cobalts class... you better put on a LOT of bolt ons to keep up... remember you can add a turbo kit all you want... its STILL FACTORY SUPERCHARGED..... which mean while your working out issues with your "bolt on turbo-kit" he/she is driving.....

PS... yea let us know when that "turbo ralliart" comes out.. oh it already is... its called a EVO.......
Man at least it took a good 6 months AFTER the SRT-4 was released before people came on here touting it as king $hit.....

Honestly man, the Cobalt SS outclasses an RSX??? Did you look at the performance comparisons? I hardly call at most a 0.2 sec difference in the quarter mile an outclassing. If anything the RSX outclasses the Cobalt, because it stays on the same plane for performance while offering up luxury the Cobalt will never have.

Hey everyone, you thought the SRT-4 ra-ra's were horrible to deal with? Just wait, I have a feeling the new crop from the SS will be even worse....

No offense meant, but am I the only one that enjoys the linear power delivery of a good NA car? (350Z or G35 for example) Yea the kick in the **** from forced induction is a rush, but a broader range of power is so much more useful, and many times easier to manipulate on the track. Just my 2 cents.....

i myself, will probably never buy a domestic car. by saying that, im saying i will probably not even consider buying this car.

BUT

this car did catch my attention. it's surprising to me to hear chevy putting a supercharger onto a $20k car, in a good way of course. I think it's another big step for domestic car companies to in the development of budget friendly, everyday performance cars.

car companies use forced induction to get power out of the engine at a more cost effective way by using a supercharger or turbo. developing a similar spec engine with more power will always be more costly. sure the NA powerband would be nice, but how much research and development will it take to have an engine that will output more horsepower than the that engine but still weighs just as much, takes up space just as much, and is as reliable?

ROFL, what is that thing? it looks like a ricey cavalier....they should've stuck with their current plan, but based it more on the C6 than the Cavalier/Impala

Thats partly true bob. Unfortunately in most cases now forced induction with these domestic vehicles is a stop-gap measure to compete in the sport compact market. Look more into the development of the SRT-4s motor, they didnt even do a proper durability test. They overbuilt the key components of the engine to help increase durability. That was always the inherent beauty of Honda with Vtec, it accomplished more with NA than previously thought possible. Now many high performance NA motors use some form of cam phasing or variable timing to obtain high performance.

The issue I presented was not NA power beating out forced induction. Displacement for displacement, it is not possible, NA will always lose. As for your reliability comment, turbo-charged vehicles always will require more service, and most likely have less time between overhalls due to the increased preasures seen by the cylinders. Extra moving parts and systems also increase possible failures.

Again, not compairing ultimate power potential between forced induction and NA, just how the power delivery feels. I prefer the flater torque and hp curves. Any rate, good luck this semester in ME man, its a tough road to travel.

NO WAY DUDE.
More car makers are not realizing anything except they found ways to save more money and deliver more crap! It's insulting really.

Fu*k that car!

Not to get way OT but this is absolutely not true. The SRT engineers DID in fact perform numerous durabilty tests to the A855 motor including the rigorous 24 hour test. It wasn't as simple as just throwing a bunch of overbuilt parts in the pot.

Exclamation

for all the guys that quoted me...

i guess you forgot the part where I put IMO. IMO i choose:

wrx > ss
srt4 > ss
rsx-s > ss
specV > ss
ralliart > ss

why, well because overall the car is your base cavy w/ a supercharger. Is GM doing something that has been done before or that's long overdue? I read the article, I know the stats, so it brakes better than a wrx, would you buy it over a wrx? NO. So it handles better than a srt4, would you buy it over a srt4? I wouldnt, and a majority of people in the thread said they wouldnt either. It runs a 14.7 stock in the quater, rsx-s can run a 14.8 stock. The interior of the SS is shiny plastic, I don't see anybody going go-go-ga-ga over the interior. Bet, the inside of the rsx-s is more classy and better looking than the SS. Yes, I said a RA/SpecV > SS only because, overall the car is nothing amazing. I could buy a SS, im pretty sure alot of people could, but honestly who would choose an SS over a wrx, srt4, rsx-s, specV or ralliart? stock or slightly modded? I wouldnt, and that's my opinion.

A better question, who would buy a non supercharger version cobalt coupe over a rsx-s, ralliart or specV? The non-SC doesnt come w/ recaros or sc, So Hmmmm... who would?

It has recaros, big whoop... there seats, you sit you fat *** in them and that's it. It's SC, so what... alot of cars of FI, does it make it better than other cars...? NO. I give the car it's props... but honestly, it's sole competition is the srt4 and stock vs. stock... srt4 would ish all over the ss.

You gotta be kidding me... while were working on our bolt on turbo, the factory run is just driving? lmao... this comming from an EVO driver... rethink/rephrase that thought dude.

nobody said anything about the specV,rsx or ralliart being in the same class as the SS, so in return...

READING > YOU.

Some people are not subject to buy the fastest thing out, what do you say to sI, gts, specV owners when the wrx came out? tell them there opinion is stupid because they rather buy N/A car than a FI car, GET REAL!

I let one of them drive it and they insisted on having certain other key people down there drive it. They were stoked!

ROAD/RACE
There, novtec1... want more info, do a search.
