Need a new car?

Ok, Im not trying to sell cars here, just informing people of a great deal. Understand I know this is a Mitsu driven forum, and I drive a Lancer.

The other day I took a trip up to the Honda dealership to check out the Element, not to buy, just to see. Anyhow, I talk to a salesman that turns out to know my dad from many years back. We chatted a long time aboutmy car, Hondas, engine swaps, etc. ( He used to be a service manager, hes seen it all) Anyhow, the new Civic SI comes up and he informs me he has 3 2002 Civic Si s and they are not selling at all. (Read the car is ugly) Anyhow, he tells me he is selling them for 14,900. Thats sooo cheap considering they sticker at 19,500. He has a silver, white and black left. I would have bought one if I didnt have the Lancer already. Yes I like the looks of the Lancer better, but it would have been almost 4 grand cheaper than my OZ.

So again, Im just passing this info along to anyone wanting a new car, or if any of anyones friend shas their heart set on a Civic SI. The cars are in Chicago, but I think they can ship them out to other dealerships. Just thought Id mention it...

in my opinion it still isnt worth it. ugly, underpowered. but hey, it has a rally shifter .

come to think of it, why did they put a "rally shifter" in a car that is far from seeing a rally.

They're selling them in my area for 13K. Much cheaper than most EX trims. Hell, if I didn't have a Lancer, I'd buy one. That's a damn good buy. As long as it isn't gold-colored or that "lluminescient" baby-**** green...

When it comes time to re-sell, no one will buy it either . . .
Hmm, maybe this car is more popular in California?

It's really ugly though, looks like a mini-mini van

The si looks nice with a body-kit on it and some other after market parts.

I'm with SL. Good buy. It's not uncommon to see them selling for $15,000 or in that area. Less is pretty suprising to me though. Hell, I'd buy one if you could relocate the shifter and if I had the loot. Not the hottest looking thing, but a fun lookin' car and not a bad platform to start on.

why don't you guys like the shifter thats higher up, its not a "rally shifter" a lot of the old alfa romeos had those, they weren't rally cars either, its easier to reach so your hand is away from the wheel for less time when you shift, i don't get why you don't like it, i think its cool and increases performance

Yes, it seems Honda are getting more ugly than ever. It is a shame though, becuase the VTEC engines are preety sweet. But who needs VTEC when you got turbo

Cheers

My friends might be interested for that price. Do you have the name or any info on his dealership?

I was amazed too to see the Si selling way under sticker here in Minneapolis. they were stickered (at discount) under the Ex (I think thats the right model) with similar option packages... I have read some glowing reviews of that shifter/tranny, but I don't know that I would ever get used to it, rally inspired or not...

I've gotten 2 mailers from Honda in the last 2 months or so trying to sell me the Si... "a great car for a great price" etc. etc. So they're really trying to sell them, and what I read here backs that up. I know my local dealership had like 8 sitting on the lot back in about August when we took my gf's civic in for service.

I guess that euro styling doesn't sell over here quite as well, though the focus seems to have decent numebrs. Over in the UK they have several trim levels with that same jellybean body style, not just the Si or TypeR. I think I saw like an LX or EX or something driving down the motorway.
